Yet another rules question

On a jump ball when can you touch the ball? Can you tap the ball on the way up or have to wait until the top of arc.:sssh:

top of the arc

OOPS. Did not read it through...Team B shoots the freethrows and the ball out at the division line.

You lose the arrow because of violations/fouls during the throw-in of the alternating possession. That is dead ball activity before the throw-in.

I'm pretty sure you that you only lose the arrow due to a violation during the AP. A foul would not cause you to lose the arrow.

Just so everyone on here knows, I wouldn't argue with cshs, he knows his stuff.:ylsuper:

Please. I'm just a rules geek who might know more than the average fan. I do have a soft spot in my heart for those that choose to wear the stripes.

I do too, I can't understand why anyone would want to be an official, they get no respect, get yelled at, criticized whether they make a good call or a bad call. Everyone lets them know when they mess up but never applaud them for the other 9/10 calls they made right. They don't do it for the money either, atleast not at the high school level, isn't it like $70 a game or something? NBA and NCAA referees do make some pretty good money though, I believe the SEC pays something like $1,200 a game. I am glad that there are people willing to do it, but I just couldn't see myself ever being one.

At the tip, a player from Team A tips the ball. It bounces and he grabs it. Obviously, he can't do that, so Team B gets possession. Who gets the next alternate possession?

This is why there are sooo many fans in the stands yelling! Most don't even know the rules and what is legal and what is not.

Most definitely we should honor the officials...they do have an extremely difficult job and get so little respect! However, in asking the question, please do not thing that I was disrespecting the officials. I have become somewhat of a student of the game and when the opportunity for learning occurs, I take it.

I was talking with an official tonight and mentioned that there should be some sort of basketball rules quiz that you have to take before you can be in the gym as a FAN. As an example, I get really tired of all of the "3 seconds" yelling when there is a series of shots and offensive rebounds.

I know, I was just stating why I wouldn't be one myself.

Good idea, butter up the ref and get some calls your way lol.

Actually, this official is from our hometown and obviously doesn't call our games. He announces some of our games...but not a bad idea!
