Putnam Stadium Restoration

Featured Replies

I hope that the fine people at Ashland can get this done. Putnam Stadium has been a landmark for high school football in our area for a long, long time. Good luck to the commities/workers on this project in getting the fundng and help that they need.

This is from as Tomcat fan in Raceland....... except for the one game per season with Racleand. :thumb: (there are some things that I just cannot do :D)

On a side note/question....Is the Dan Kelly mentioned in this article the same Dan Kelly that taught at Raceland and was an assistant coach there in the 70's?

Good Luck to the good people of Ashland!! Putman has lots of personality and history and needs to be saved for the next generation. I wish the people of New York (Yankee Stadium) were as foward thinking as the people of Ashland.

I love Putnam stadium! Its a throwack to another era! I hope it can be refuribished, while at the same time keep the old feel.

I think they should just blow the thing up and start over.

Not really. I have never liked the place. The best thing about it was the natural grass surface is the best around. Personally I hope they keep the grass. They put alot of work into that field. Keep the natural grass and rebuild everything around it.

Awesome place to play and coach! Love the atmosphere on a Friday night!

I have been to a lot of different stadiums through the years and it is hard to find a better place to watch a high school football game than at Putnam Stadium. The atmosphere is fantastic and the storied history of Tomcat football seems to jump out at you the moment you enter the stadium.

Hats off to the fine folks at Ashland for their effort to preserve the great tradition of Putnam and I will be looking forward to seeing the new look of the stadium in the future.

:thumb: I couldn't have said it any better cville. Ashland has one of if not THE STRONGEST football traditions in our area and Putnam is imo the best atmosphere that I have seen for High School football.

(with the exception of our place at Raceland of course.....:D)

It would be unusual, but this is important enough to KY football history and the city that the local government or school board should consider a bond issue.
