January 22, 200818 yr You mean, just because he suspended the writ of habeas corpus? A minor detail to be sure.
January 22, 200818 yr I know he was part of the inner ring and counsel to Nixon but he did spill the beans and help Congress unravel the Watergate mess. After his release from jail, John Dean has spent his life preaching ethics and fighting to stay in the public spotlight. He only spilled the beans after getting caught doing what he knew was wrong. I have much more respect for G. Gordon Liddy, who also got caught doing wrong but elected to pay his full debt to society. While it could also be argued that Liddy cashed in on his notoriety as a Watergate figure, IMO, he has shown consderable talent as a radio talk show host. John Dean has tried to base his entire career aroung the Watergate scandal in the same way that Carl Bernstein has. IMO, Woodward is a talented investigative reporter and Bernstein was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time. BTW, I am not the least bit sympathetic towards Nixon. The older I have grown, the more convinced that Nixon was a horrible president and would have been had the Watergate break-in never happened. Wage and price controls, signing an agreement with the North Vietnamese that led directly to the slaughter of millions in SE Asia, "opening" China, etc. I really am hard pressed to think of anything positive that came from Nixon's presidency.

I would have to disagree with you there. I think the thing about Liddy for me has always been that he has been seemingly unrepentant about any of the things that took place with CREEP and Watergate and I thought it hypocritical the way he would roast Clinton (who deserved it) and yet he had his own past that was just as bad (IMHO).
