First AP Poll released

Featured Replies

The first Kentucky Associated Press basketball poll is out. Here is the voting, with it looks like nine media members taking part:

1-Tie. Lexington Catholic (7 first place votes, 78 total votes)

1-Tie. Mason County (1 FPV, 78 total)

3. Scott County (65 total)

4. Bryan Station (1 FPV, 61 total)

5. Male (55)

6. Elliott County (32)

7. Jeffersontown (31)

8. Holmes (18)

9. Dunbar (13)

10. Shelby Valley (11)

Also receiving votes:

UHA (8)

Ballard (8)

Clark County (8)

June Buchanan (7)

Muhlenberg North (5)

Shelby County (5)

Henderson County (3)

Eastern (3)

Boone County (2)

Cov Cath (2)

So we are now down to 9 AP voters. APathy is running rampant.

I have the same teams in my top 10, just have them in a diff order.

Just thought of this...if Catholic got 7 first place votes, which makes up 70 of its 78 total, it only means a few possibilities with the other two voters. At most, one put them third while the other left them completely off; both of them put them 7th; or a combination between. That doesn't seem right to me, at all.

I wouldn't say "down to" 9 voters. It is, after all, the first poll of the year. Give it time, I would say. Nevertheless, I did appreciate the "APathy" pun!

Hard to come up with a really accurate poll if only 9 voters are participating...

Here are 12 teams that probably feel like they should have got 1 vote somewhere:

1) Adair County

2) Montgomery County

3) Paducah Tilghman or Marshall County

4) PRP or DeSales

5) Madisonville or Hopkinsville

6) Hazard

7) Corbin

8) Lincoln County

9) Highlands

If they had 20 voters (more representative) than I'm sure most of them would have garnered a few votes. Thoughts??

People who have not seen Holmes play, need to. They are an extemely solid ball club that plays well together. IMO they are going to be the team to beat come March!

I forgot one lest I make the folks in Johnson County mad. Painstville and Landon Slone are a nice team I saw twice in the 5/3 tourney. Problem is that Shelby Valley seems to have the mental edge on them every time they play.

Well, 12 just voted on Mr. Football a week ago.

I say Holmes in the State Tourney last year. Although they didn't win the tournament they had what the most athletic talent of the 16 teams and with one loss this year must be a comparable team??

From what I have been told, I didn't see last years team! They are playing much more like a team this year! That loss was a 1 point loss to Male. Look for them to make a strong run! They have been beating up the 9th region!

They have an upcoming game (Holmes) in a tournament at East Jessamine which is only 30 minutes from my location. I look forward to seeing them play. I believe it is a Saturday at 3:00PM.

Holmes is very athletic! This is a great group of young men that play hard and play together the entire game. I have seen them play at least 5 games this year. They are very TEAM oriented and defensive minded. That is a huge change from the teams that have gone to Lexington the past 2 years for the Sweet 16. Arrez Henderson is the real deal. Defensively, I would put him at the top of the class in the state. He is 5'11 and can play with the best regardless of height.

I just can't wait til February 12th. While both teams have A LOT of games in front of them before that date, I really can't wait to see Elliott and Mason Co play.
