January 6, 200818 yr The Competition Committee needs to make a rule that does not allow defensive players to tee off on ball carriers when they are on the ground and have either given themselves up or are making no attempt to advance. Gates gets drilled when all the defender has to do is jump on him and touch him without driving his shoulder into him. I would agree with that but on the play that he got hurt on Gates was clearly trying to get back up and advance. If he's trying to get back up he should be fair game.
