Highlands 57 Dixie 53

Featured Replies

Highlands blows a 9 point lead in the third quarter only to come back and win the game by 4 on their home floor. Greg McGraw was the man tonight with 23 points which consisted of drives, 3's and a big one handed dunk. Sophomores again played well.

Nice win for he Birds! Hey 83 Bird, who won the JV game? Give us a game summary.

How'd Simpson play? What was the lead when they blew it?

Simpson had a good game, as did Kowolonek. I believe the Birds were up 39-30 at one point. The Big kid for Dixie didn't play much in the 2nd half. Is that norm?

Kendall looks to be the go to guy for Dixie. Nice ballgame for the Birds to pull it out and hit their free throws in the end. That shows veteran leadership.

Is Highlands weak this year? I didn't think Dixie would be strong this year?

Dixie is ranked 5th in the 9th. Highlands 3rd.

I took in the HHS-Dixie JV-V game tonite and was extremely underwhelmed with the JV team. The boys looked abit lifeless tonite. Dixie managed to play down to the Birds level and blew a 9 pt lead to eek out a 3 pt. victory. I got to the game at the beginning of the 3rd period. and watched the Birds not score for about 4 minutes. They all hang around the 3 pt. line passing the ball with no cuts. Not quite sure what they're looking for, unless it's a turnover, of which they found plenty. They tried a couple times to lob entry passes to Grubbs. Bad attempts, limited mobility. Made a comeback when they started to press. It generated offensive opportunities at the basket for them. No O-rebounds out of their offensive sets. Out of bounds plays (?) do not try to score. Smith-Keller played well in spurts as did #30. Lother would attack the basket..but then would get dominated inside. Dill played hard, has nice size. Messer needs to really step up on defense, though he did make a nice recovery for a steal on an inbounds break-out pass. Would have liked to see Guidugli and Turner on the baseline blocks using their athleticism around the basket instead of 20 feet away. They could use Grubbs as a pick (wall?) at the top of the key like they used to with Lorenzen (back in the day). Then roll him to the hoop. Plenty of room for improvement. But they do have players that give great effort.

Please pass the crow! I took in the HHS-Dixie JV-V game. The boys looked abit lifeless tonite. I was absolutely impressed with the effort and game of Ben Watson, the Grote boy, and future star Lil' Stevie Kowolonek. All sophomores and all played MUCH better than any JR on the squad. (I previously questioned why no Jr's were playing). McGraw was fabulous in the first half...cooled abit in the second. Simpson seemed to be sleepwalking all night until the last 2 minutes when he decided to play defense for a possession and made a key steal-assist. He then closed out the game with some stellar free throw shooting. Finished with a quiet 16 pts. Never could figure out why Willie didn't clear out and let Nic take a much smaller man to the hole??? Well, now it's on to the team from Park Hills!! Go Birds'!

Colonel Week!

Any of the Highland Sr's stepping up?

Heard that Simpson broke his hand and is out for the year. Any truth to this?
