I know Walton has a "thread" already, but I just wanted to see everyone's take on this up-coming game! It's a BIG district game, and could 'fix' Walton's sub-par season so far.

 

Any thoughts?

 

I think it will be tight game throughout. Walton seems to always come out flat, when they travel down to Grant County. I think Walton will come home with a win, but it won't be easy. Walton by 2!

 

Any information on Grant ths year? Haven't seen them yet?!

This should be a close game. Home court my help Grant Co. (should be a bigger crowd than usual since it is a boy/girl doubleheader with the boys playing first). I'll take Grant Co. by 6.

It should be a good one. It depends on which Walton team shows up. IMO they have more talent but Grant plays hard.

Grant County started off very strong this year with wins over Trimble, Owen, and Williamstown, but has fallen off lately with losses to Villa and Bellevue. I think both teams need this win to right their ships and that they will fight hard for victory. Both coaches know how important it is, and the homecourt acvantage has to go to Grant, but with that said, I think that WV wins by 5 because they just have more talent.

I think this one is too close too call.

 

Grant County has been playing well this year but seems to struggle lately, but who hasn't during the Holidays. I have not seen them play so I am not sure if they pressure the ball or what their style is. If they do then I think they win.

 

If they do not pressure the ball then I think that Walton will have a good chance in this one with Hargett going up against the Fresh at Grant (sorry do not remember her name)

Dixon (a freshman?) for Walton will be the X factor. If she plays well Walton will win. She is a nice compliment to Hargett inside. Walton's guards need to handle and if they do it will be a WV victory.

Grant Co with the win by 8. Homecourt, important district game & some residual motivation from the district loss last season. All the starters have a ton of varsity experience:2 Juniors & 3 Seniors start & the Juniors played Varsity as 8th graders, so all starters have 4 years of varsity experience. The freshman will come off the bench & will be a surprise for WV. She is a lot to handle. After reading the WV thread, Grant Co may have the edge in preparation for the game as well. Open gyms? Yep, ALL upperclassmen, Seniors & Juniors attended. Got back on a flight from Ft Lauderdale New Year's Eve, back in the gym New Year's Day. Every player present & accounted for. Gotta love the work ethic. We'll see tonight if it pays off. The only problem I see is if Grant gets into foul trouble...in Florida, they let them play very physical & don't call a lot. Making the adjustment back to the 8th region refs may be a problem. The physical play in Florida took a quarter for the team to adjust to down there & they played 3 games that style. WV will have Grant in their grill on defense I think, let's hope Grant doesn't get into foul trouble early because of it! I think an interesting sidenote is that both programs are under new leadership & have a lot in common because of that. Successful seasons prior to the coaching change, etc. It will be interesting to see how the programs continue to adjust to the change. I know Grant County is fortunate to hire a coach that is very knowledgeable & I don't think the adjustment to his style will take as long or be as difficult as it seems to be at WV.

They call different from anywhere in the state and out of state also. It also depends on who is under your side of the basket. Very Frustrating!

 

Every boys game I have been to lately there are 3 refs GV always just gets 2. Isn't this a title 9 issue. Seems a little unfair to me.

A lot of districts are using 3 person officiating crews in their district seed games for both boys and girls games. I have seen worse officiating out in the state than what goes on in the 8th and 9th regions. Some officials will let them play more than others. It's tough, but the kids have to see how the game is being called and make adjustments.
