Greenup trying to avg giving up over 100+ a game this year.:scared:

Greenup Marymount strikes again.

Seems as if Greenups defense has the most room for improvement. I dont know if they played the run-and-gun style I heard they were working on but it doesnt appear to be working for them. Good luck to them the rest of the season but I cant imagine them being able to handle giving up this many points.

They are scoring 72 on average and giving up 110. They must do a better job of defending. They are giving up too many layups and second, third, fourth chance buckets.

Agreed fully on this one. If GC doesn't step up and play some D it's going to be a long season

What would you call that defense? Chase the ball and give up a layup?

Well if there going to trap like they do there going to have to have much more heat and pressure on the ball and the back guys are going to have to rotate and be able to slow down the offense if they are beaten for the backside help to get there. But it looks that the back guys are being lazy and not sprinting back to the ball line.

Caught a few on the radio coming home from work. 4 kids from Fairland with double figures, three from Greenup (I believe). 61 free throws shot between them. High scorer 37. I didn't catch the rebounding.

Greenup has a lot of talent on their team. It will take time for them to gel together. One observation that hasn't been addressed is the turnovers. A lot of the points Fairland scored resulted from turnovers. Fairland read just about every pass made. Greenup has to protect offensively, block out, and rebound. Smart defense and offense wins the game. One with out the other will always result in a loss.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see that much talent. They do have some shooters, but no one plays defense or rebounds well, and the ballhandling and team speed do not exist. Maybe I missed something, but Greenup's talent levelas a whole seems to be down this year. It is difficult to play the tempo they are trying to play with poor rebounding and ballhandling and no defensive pressure.

It is called adapting to your personnel. Most high school coaches realize you have to do that. You cannot bring in players for your system like in college.

Greenup does have talent. It will take time, but it will happen. I do agree that the speed doesn't seem to be a strong point. Maybe going into a zone defense will work best, but the coaching staff and players will work it out. Season play is the place to work the problems out. Tournament play will show the real talent. Who knows may Greenup Basketball will have follow Greenup Football's lead. I hope not, because I would like to see some wins in the season, but when what counts happens, then you see teamwork and talent.

Ok, so they have no speed but they are trying to play the "fastest game the 16th has seen in a long time..." It sounds to me like they need to implement the slow down and adapt to what they have in the uniforms.
