The Professor Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Owsley had a double digit lead going into the last quarter. The Jackson radio announcers said shortly before the game was over if Owsley County lost this game they could look back at a technical foul called in the 4th quarter. They said it was a big turnaround in the game. Owsley had a 16 point lead at halftime.
The Professor Posted November 30, 2007 Author Posted November 30, 2007 I was listening to this game on the Jackson radio, Owsley had an 11 point lead with about 6 minutes to go, but they went cold as ice, and couldn't rebound very well from there on. And then the technical on one of their players was a dagger! Got to learn to control those emotions.
lucky13 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 It wasnt so much the Owls offense as it was the Tiger defense. Gentry Hayes, Corey Davidson, and Drew Davidson put good pressure up front on the press, and Aaron Jackson and Zach Gayheart each had multiple blocks in the 4th quarter. Derek Goff hit a huge three to put the team up one, and the Tigers fed off the momentum. Drew Davidson was cold the first half but came alive in the second half hitting key free throws down the stretch, though the rest of the team did not. Overall this was a very hardfought game by both teams. Good comeback for the tigers and congratulations to Coach Bellamy
Augger Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 One play can change a whole game. Such as a technical, I wasnt there nor did I listen to it. But IMO players that have actions like this hurt their teams, they should put their team first not their emotions.
Nets Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Outstanding win for Jackson City and Coach George M. Bellamy! He is a Wily Vet of coaches and great comeback!
daballer03 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 One play can change a whole game. Such as a technical, I wasnt there nor did I listen to it. But IMO players that have actions like this hurt their teams, they should put their team first not their emotions. Augur, I wasn't there either but a couple of acquaintances were. Their interpretation was that the loss of the player (apparently the player fouled out and kicked the ball out of frustration and was called for a technical?) was the biggest factor in the turn-around, not the technical itself. They felt that the loss of the player's general contributions, play-making, leadership etc. had a really negative impact on Owsley's ability to function smoothly as a team.
ARC Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 I was there. In the first half, JC took only outside shots and shot poorly. Owsley hardly took any outside shots, but instead penetrated to the basket. Second half JC played much better interior defense and so the Owls began to shoot more outside and were not as effective. OC was just not able to get their inside game going again. JC began driving to the basket and getting fouled. Although JC didn't shoot very well from the line, they did rebound several key missed free throws. I do think that the OC technical tipped the scales pretty solidly toward JC. The Owls point guard fouled out at the same time as the technical. JC shot two free throws (hit both) and got the ball. Both teams did play with heart and wanted the win. The gym was packed.
Master of the Hardwood Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Sounds like a typical Owsley atmosphere. Was the T warranted? I know he kicked the ball, but was it a monster up to the ceiling or down the floor kick of the ball or a small one that probably could of went with a talking too by an official? just wondering...
ARC Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 The game was at Jackson. I actually didn't see the event that led to the technical. OC player drove down the center of the lane and just inside the ft line collided with a JC player. This resulted in a charging foul on OC, which led to the technical. I didn't see the basketball go flying or anything like that. I did think that there were a few charges called on OC that were questionable, but that's just from where I sat.
Augger Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 I didnt know there was a kicked ball. Maybe the player was training for soccer.
lucky13 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Outstanding win for Jackson City and Coach George M. Bellamy! He is a Wily Vet of coaches and great comeback! Coach Bellamy pulled off a great comeback in the second half and proved that he has a few tricks up his sleeve. He began subbing Gentry Hayes and Corey Davidson in and out with CK Howard and Derek Goff. At first this had me very confused, but it soon became very apperant that Hays and Davidson were in on Defens ive possesions and Howard and Goff were in for offensive possesions. Apperantly it worked
