Whitley County vs Corbin

Featured Replies

Hounds and Colonels battle this Friday at Gillium gym. Both teams are young and battling injuries. Both, Josh Crawford of Corbin and Michael Crawford of Whitley are questionable for the game. This a heated district game which will have big time seeding implications for the district tournament. Hounds are coming off a tough road win verses a very athletic Middlesboro team, in double OT, whereas the Colonels cruised to an opening night win "South of the Border" against the Blue Devils of Jellico by 40 points. New Coach Chris Baker seems to have the Colonels cooking early in the season. How will this one shake out on Friday night?

Even without Crawford (Josh) the Redhounds are still very potent offensively, and should be a heavy favorite against the Colonels who by many are picked fourth in the district. That being said Whitley has shown that they can play defense and that can keep you in games. I look for a better game than in the past but the Hounds still win this one, simply becuase they have more offensive weapons than do the Colonels.

If Crawford (Michael) can return and Butcher get back it will help the depth of the Colonels and could even make it closer. Those two will change the sub rotation patterns and will change the look of the Colonels. Whitley has been flying under the radar and nobody is really talking about them after the departure of Deaton, and the season that they had last year. Chris Baker is working hard, but he is not there yet.

Very true, Coach Baker seemed to be in very confident in his pre-season interview with the News Journel. He seemed to be realistic about where the program was and where he wanted to take it. He mentioned that Coaching at Whitley was his "Dream Job". Since he is an Alumni, I am sure he will work his tail off day and night to make things better. You never know what might happen. It might be "Shake and Bake" time for the Colonels. They maybe blasting" Do you Smell what the Bake has cooking" over the PA at Lawson gym come February once all the pieces fall into place. Hounds will have to earn the win Friday. Whitley has to like their chances with Crawford out of the lineup and the score of the Mboro/ Corbin game last night. I think Whitley took care of Mboro fairly easily last season and they return the entire cast.

Should be Corbin by a ton.

Whitley sends a message to everyone in this game! What that message is... I have the slightest clue

Whitley will have big trouble with ball handling against Corbin's press on Friday. It should be over early and substitutions start early. Corbin by 20 but could be 40 if Coach P keeps the pedal to the metal.

The game should be much closer than this. Whitley has some good offensive players............... Corbin by 8-10 points.

Corbin 76-65.

I think you are right, the Colonels will send a message, although I don't think they will win, I think that they will show some folks that they are going to D up and play hard and make you work for everything that you get. I would like to see a Colonel win but it is not in the cards, Corbin just will have too many offensive weapons for the Colonels to keep pace with, but it will be a better game than in years past.

A second message may be that Baker is going to bring the Whitley program around and make them competitive on a year in and year out basis (if given the time)

Whitley should be a factor in the region every year, they have too many factors in place not to be.............not changing coaches every other year is one of the keys to getting and staying there.

IMO Whitley will play very hard and fired up and give the Hounds a game for maybe the lst half, but Corbin should pull away by 15 or more in the 2nd. Corbin is a very deep team with alot of weapons, but just like M'boro Whitley gets the Hounds with (NJ) no Josh, so anything could happen.

Rumors are already out and about with this guy but they are also about BCG at Kentucky, some fans will never be happy!!! Whitley should be better for a FIVE A school, just saying what everyone already knows! They did have an impressive win against Jellico beat them by 40 points, that accomplishes alot!!!

Those are some rumors that I had not heard yet. Jellico was a game which has been on the schedule and yes you are right, but at least they did beat them by forty which is what they should have done to a school like that, in fact it could have been much worse had the mercy rule not kicked in (TN has one in basketball at 35 points) and the fact that every kid that dressed played in the first half.

The big thing is that they get some continuity in the program, look at what they accomplished in football when Mike Campbell got 17 years. I don't think anyone is disputing the fact that Whitley should be better but like I said above, given time I think Chris Baker will get it done. 5A or whatever there are factors that Whitley has to overcome, which are too numerous here to go into but in my eyes there is no doubt that Whitley is on the right track.

I absolutely agree with you:D
