I was at the game as well and wasn't sure about that call either, the guys on the radio said it wasnt a penalty because there was a reciever standing right beside the lineman that touched the pass, and there was it was Shawn Grimm,,,,but i am not sure how that call goes. THe lineman wasn't downfield and there was a reciever in the area so it was like a screen play, but i don't know what the rule on that is.

Because while i was at the game, my younger brother was at his house and wanted to know the updates to the game. He replies under my name to check up on the scores. We are both graduates of JCHS and keep up with what goes on with the eagles.

To my understanding the rule is that if a ineligable player touches the ball reguardless of who is around him or where the player is then its illegal touching. I seen the lineman catch the ball and then throw it to the ground which as soon as he touches it the play is blown dead so him throwing the ball down doesnt matter. But the offical just called the play as an incomplete pass which tells me that these officials had never came acrossed this at all.

I've heard of several situations where the ref made the wrong call or no call because of an unusual situation they might not have seen before. Is there a method that these situations are collected and shared with referees for future reference?

 

I understand in the SEC that coaches send information on questionable calls to person with that responsibililty and the ref's are brought up to speed on the rules, or not assigned to certain games for obvious reasons.

 

I have the upmost respect for anyone wanting to be a referee and would hope most would want the information gathered and shared with them if it is not already done.

What i don't understand is that there wasn't just one flag there were three flags thrown on the play in the same exact area. All of that and they waved them all off. You would think if 3 refs. saw something that there would be some type of penalty for illegal touching. There were actually a lot of missed/bad calls this game on the onside kick for MC the ref closest to the sideline that laid his marker down about 2 inches past the required 10 yard zone an onside must go but the head ref. i believe he was in the middle of the field with a bad angle called it short. That is just my thought/opinion
