November 17, 200718 yr If I were you I would do a little research on company policy. I'm not sure what kind of company it is, or even if it is one at all, but most have very clear policies laid out in regards to this. I would read up and make sure you handle it the way the company advises. If you know he is doing this and then he has an accident you could catch part of the blame. Make sure that if this incident happens again you funnel it through the right channels as per company policy. I agree with your decision so far, but if it happens again you need to wash your hands of it.

November 19, 200718 yr I was in supervision for a number of years in my career as a Union pipefitter , and I canned and saw a number of brother pipefitters canned for drinking on the job . Usually we called security ( read the cops )and had them escorted from the premesis after they were paid off and the cops took care of the problem off the jobsite . There is NEVER NEVER any reason that this should be condoned or covered up . If an accident would have happened or some incident occured OSHA would have come down hard on the company and supervision , and the customer would have been within their rights to have your company kicked off the job . You could have lost your job . If this guy is drinking on the job that early in the morning he is in all probability an alcoholic and has done this before . Your supervisor should be advised of this matter immediately if it occurs again.
November 20, 200718 yr Author When you say "we", does this mean you involved a supervisor? No, I told one of my co-workers, it was someone who had worked with the guy a little more than I.
