November 16, 200718 yr Nor mine, like I said before, but he had millions of others who are Christian. Every Christian I met after the election got on me for not voting for Bush.
November 16, 200718 yr Author I would hazard a guess that if the Dems went hard and did not fund the soldiers, it would hand the election the the Republicans. I would think that the evangelical vote that put Bush into office and now does not stand excited about anyone would suddenly become excited behind whomever is the Rep candidate in response to the Dems cutting funding to the troops.
November 16, 200718 yr The term "shamrock fan" is a label. Therefore I assume you think it's rubbish, too.... Labels are actually good. When you go to the medicine cabinet, you better hope there are accurate labels. We use terms like Kentucky Fan, Louisville Fan, etc. Those labels actually tell us bits of information. Not the WHOLE story, but helpful , and often, significant info. I find it interesting that you use the dictionary to help you define liberal (not "liberals"), but make up your own definition for conservative"s" (a group of people, not a "perspective") I can see why you placed a "confused" symbol at the end of your post.... These labels are rubbish. Why? Because they are divisive and pointless. I identify with issues from both sides, so I don't see why so many people feel they must pigeonhole themself with such terminology. I didn't make up a definition for "conservative". I asked a question. But here it is: conserving, protecting from loss or waste, preserving established institutions, resisting or opposing any changes. And I am confused as to why "liberal" is such an epithet these days, whilst "conservative" is something to be embraced?
November 16, 200718 yr Author I wanted to ask but now have forgotten the label. Last night at the Dem Presidential debate, they threw out the label repeatedly, Bush, Cheney and the neo-somebodies (can't remember the last part). Anyone know the label they were throwing out and who are these people? I had never heard the label before.
November 16, 200718 yr Author Was it "neo-Con"? That was it. Who are these people that the Democrats kept taking about?
November 16, 200718 yr Taken literally, neo-con would mean someone who is new to conservatism. A converted liberal, I guess. However, I think it is meant to say those who favor using any means (including military action) to achieve U.S. policy aims, and the theoretical "New-World" types. Usually aimed at Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, etc. I think it is sinister sounding by design, ala "neo-nazi". Just another inflammatory, polarizing political label.:irked:

November 16, 200718 yr That was it. Who are these people that the Democrats kept taking about? Dick Cheney and his ilk would represent who most would consider the Neo-Cons. From what I have studied, many Neo-cons, have a strong, almost "pre-emptive" foriegn policy base.
November 16, 200718 yr I got this from urbandictionary.com "Abbreviated version of Neo-Conservative. Neo-Con's represent the new face of the Republican party, and the PNAC/Zionist philosophy of premptive military action as a viable option to ensure Zionist Hegemony, particularly in the middle-east. Neo-Con's differ from Traditional Conservatives, in that their roots are in the left of the political spectrum. Former Trotskyites, who became disillusioned with the political left and joined the Republican Party during the 1980's. Neo-Con's also differ from traditional conservatives in that they favor big government and Internationalism] as opposed to states rights,Isolationism and Protectionism. Neo-Con's are almost entirely pro Israel, anti Palestinian and often hold dual citizenship with both the United States and Israel. Paul Wolfowitz is the perfect example of a Neo-Con. He holds dual citizenship with both the US and Israel, and helped to author the pre-emptive wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq." I question the blanket statement: "the new face of the Republican party" as being a bit too broad.
November 16, 200718 yr Author I question the blanket statement: "the new face of the Republican party" as being a bit too broad. Thanks for the info. I do agree that the above statement seemed to have a political lean towards it with regards to the definition.

They're basically for: 1)Cutting tax rates in order to stimulate steady economic growth. 2)Indifferent about sized of government 3)Traditional moral values 4)Foreign policy based on who are real friends are 5)That its in our national interest to defend other democracies.

November 16, 200718 yr So which one of these things are bad. As I got the impression last night that this people hang out in the same neighborhood as a Stalin and Hitler. "Neo-conservative" was a term coined by socialist Michael Harrington. It was intended as a poke at those who left the liberal ranks. The liberals still use it as such. Non-liberals just haven't figured out that its a bad word.
November 16, 200718 yr For someone not to have heard the term Neo-Con in this day and age is almost amazing. Of course, I do watch CNN a lot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoconservatism
