November 13, 200718 yr Author As I said and showed, you can play a very competitive and challenging schedule without playing he best teams on the non-public side. I do know as a former basketball coach, there are things I had to do that had nothing to do with basketball, actually hurt basketball but was the best for the overall athletic program. As AD, THAT is your job. The overall athletic program. Maybe possible in basketball. Probably not possible in soccer. Can you show me how not scheduling the non-public schools is the "best" choice for the overall athletic program and why??? IMO you are accomplishing the exact opposite.
November 13, 200718 yr I thought Sticky would catch that but he didn't. Glad that you did. You must be a little more observant than Mitts.:lol::lol::lol: Was there ever any doubt?

The AD and I would assume with some backing of the principal and superintendent has decided that this is a good response to what they perceive as no movement on the private/public issue that is troubling to the whole state of athletics in the state of KY. With what they probably feel as their hands tied at the state level and not happy with the direction that their concerns on the public/private issue are being handled and addressed, that they are limited to doing what they can locally to continue to get these issue addressed and not swept under the rug. I would also assume that there is a feeling that if they can get 150-200 schools to not schedule non-publics than they can continue to put pressure on addressing the issue. That is just off the top of my head in answering your question.

How does not scheduling non-public schools make your athletic program better??? In reality, not only is it going to make your program less competitive IMO, but depending on where you are located could significantly increase expenses as well as you will have to travel a lot more (especially if you are in NKY trying to schedule 21 non-public soccer games).

You asked: Can you show me how not scheduling the non-public schools is the "best" choice for the overall athletic program and why??? I gave you an answer that they MIGHT be feeling concerning the status of HS athletics in this state and the reasoning they feel it is their only choice. A choice they are making to "what they feel" will be a betterment to the HS athletic competition in this state and which your teams compete in. They probably feel that addressing this issue helps your program more "evenly" compete against teams. I agree with you on the cost of travel and they will need to realize that traveling expenses will have to go up. One of the reasons I alluded to support of the principal and super to make this call as there are ramifications financially of this move. 21 Non-public soccer games in NKY would be easy to schedule compared to other areas of the state. EKY's traveling expenses, I would bet, dwarfs the traveling expenses of almost any NKY school. Now, a NKY school may have to travel, O MY GOODNESS, 30 minutes to play someone compared to the present 15 minutes.:sssh: For us, a short trip is 30 minutes away and routinely travel an hour or more to play games.
November 13, 200718 yr Then they are all doing a dis-service to the kids they're supposed to be leading, IMO... This issue is not clearcut and there are points and issues on BOTH SIDES that are correct. I think you can include many of the leaders of this issue from BOTH SIDES that are doing what you state. Those who have dug their heels in and saying nothing is our fault on both sides and not truly seeking a workable compromise are wrong and doing a disservice to the kids they are supposed to be leading, IMO...

Take a look at this schedule. http://scoreboard.12dt.com/scoreboard/khsaa/kygsc07?id=24909 Please show me where I can get a comparable match within a 30 minute drive (I'll stretch to even a 60 minute drive) of NKY if I can not schedule St. Henry, NCC, Bishop Brossart, Notre Dame, Covington Holy Cross against a team not already on this schedule??? One other thing. We have to charter for out of district travel (no school busses in the district, or none that are reliable/available for travel out of NKY:D). That is $850 a pop.

November 13, 200718 yr And most of the boycotts have been about regular season games and not addressing regular season tournaments. Play in more of those that have private schools and will give you the matchups you want. I agree that costs will be more but again, if the AD puts this through then they should realize an increase in cost.
November 13, 200718 yr Author Look north. Tried that, very difficult to get on schedules up north because they are done 2 years in advance. They also play fewer matches in Ohio (only 16 regular season matches) so not many openings on those schedules. So if it is possible after those two problems, I am on the schedule for the 2011 school year. Also to get comparable matches, would be ruling out the non-publics across the river as well I guess (Seton, St. Ursula, Ursuline, etc.)???

Notre Dame, you can't replace that team in NKY because the only team comparable is you. Simon Kenton seemed to have scores similar to what NCC did. Boone County would be another option. Also, Harrison County that is within a 45 minute drive of you has a good girls' soccer program. Scott County girls, I assume, has a decent program and would be within an hour drive of you. An hour drive for a rural school is nothing in playing sports. Pretty common. Seems that your district needs to invest in a school bus to give your athletic teams the proper resources they need.

Seems that your district needs to invest in a school bus to give your athletic teams the proper resources they need. Simon Kenton is already on the schedule. Not playing them twice. Harrison County went 9-7-1 this season. They played three teams that were at one time ranked in the top 25 (East Jessamine at one point was in the 20-25 range, Bourbon County who was in the 15-20 range, and Lexington Christian that was in the 25-30 range) they lost to all three of them. Harrison County is a far cry from St. Henry, NCC, Bishop Brossart, or Covington Holy Cross. Scott County 8-12 this season is even worse. One top 25 opponent (Bourbon County) they lost 9-0... Busses would be nice, we would be able to spend 30%+ of our fundraising budget elsewhere.
November 13, 200718 yr Busses would be nice, we would be able to spend 30%+ of our fundraising budget elsewhere. I agree, I constantly tried to get away from busses and use those funds elsewhere. As one of the top 5 programs, soccerwise, you are in a different position than about 99% of the other schools in the state that would told to not play private schools. I concede that your problem is there but it is unique to you and not a scheduling issue that many would have across the state. The only other thing I could think of would be if you were up for a Friday night/Sat game. Travel to Lex or Louisville, play someone on Friday and then another game on Saturday.

I agree to an extent, but it is not just unique to us. This would seriously effect many of the public schools in NKY, Central Kentucky, and Louisville. I would say the % is more like 25% of the publics at the top end of the ladder would be effected.
