October 1, 200719 yr It certainly was possible, but there was never a point in this game when I said "Geez, Washington's gonna win this." USC's defense is absolutely awesome, and they were without their best player (Cushing), and down to the 4th string at one corner and 3rd string at one safety. Only 3 of Washington's 24 points were really "allowed" by the defense (Huskies returned a tipped INT for TD, got another tipped INT to the 9 yd line to set up another score, and the last TD was following a blocked punt returned to the 6). USC survived 4 turnovers, the blocked punt, and 16 penalties for 161 yards. Booty did not look good at all. They also overcame the loss of 2 of their starting offensive lineman early in the game. They still managed to run the ball for over 250 yards. They will not be able to play this way and beat Oregon, Cal, and ASU. But I think this game illustrates how strong a conference the Pac-10 is from top to bottom. Washington is a pretty solid football team, and their probably about the 5th or 6th best team in the conference. Win and advance, win and advance. :thumb: I can't believe a close win @ Washington combined with LSU's less than stellar victory over Tulane was reason to reverse their positions. But, that doesn't matter...as long as USC continues to take care of business, whether they win by 3 or 30, they'll be in the title game when the smoke clears. It doesn't matter to me whether they're #1 or #2 going in... Washington is an above average team, IMO, so winning there isn't an easy task for anyone. A three point win at Washington is far more impressive to me than an uninspired 34-9 win over Tulane. Tulane Mississippi State: L 17-38 Houston: L 10-34 SE Louisiana: W 35-27 (SE Louisiana lost 62-0 to Kansas) LSU: L 9-34 Washington @ Syracuse: W 42-12 Boise State: W 24-10 Ohio State: L 14-33 @ UCLA: L 31-44 USC: L 24-27 Washington is 2-3 with a nice win over Boise State and their 3 losses have come against two top 5 teams and a pretty good UCLA team...combined records of the opponents who have beat Washington, (13-1).

Hey, do we have another USC supporter on here? I sure hope so. It is lonely at the top. :thumb:

I myself would take Keith Rivers, Ray Maualuga, Lawerence Jackson and Sedrick Ellis over Cushing. Maualuga is in my mind the hardest hitting player in the game.

Maualuga is in my mind the hardest hitting player in the game. Cushing is the total package, great as a pure run stopper, but also great dropping in coverage, and covers sideline to sideline. He is another Urlacher. Mauluaga is a run man only. Rivers is an outside run stopper, almost like a drop end, not an inside man. They're all pretty darned good, though.
