You can talk fire all you want, but from what I saw the first two games; there is just a huge gap in talent. In fact when I looked out on the field before both games, I was surprised we were as close as we were in either game and that is saying something. While we would be greatly improved with more developed talent like we should have with our feeder systems, this is also the down part of the talent cycle. It so hard to measure how good these guys would be in a program geared at getting better players on the field, but my eyes tell me that even if you take our current players with JV and a few years of development, they would not be very good by our standards. They would be better than what we are currently seeing for sure, but that is not where we are today.

Heart is also hard to measure. Last week I thought we were going to lose by 50 when they came on the field because they had 6 speedy skill guys about 6"0 with muscles and moves, and their lines were very athletic and strong. In a way, saying we did not play with heart is almost funny because that is not the first or ninth thing I noticed. DC is a huge step down even if they are better from what we have seen of them in the past, so desire and all that stuff might matter this week. I remember being in the stands when we played one county school a few times, and thier teams usually played hard, and their fans kept telling their boys to play with fire and heart. They did. I left those games and on two different occasions when I over heard people complaining about the effort of their team when playing us within 40 was the result of great effort. We might have won those games by 60 or 70 if the players did not care. Talent is and will continue to be the issue this season. And while we can point at adjusting to a new offense or adding players like I have said, this team is just limited in what they can do. Three years from now will be a different story.

I do not know much about either school. however, I did graduate from Henderson County Senior High while Coach Rice was there so I have to pull for my school. I would love to see them make it here to Louisville during the finals. What better time to watch them than right here at Papa John's Stadium.

Poll: How many think Colt45 played for Rice (Reese)?

A) He did, it was just a typo.

B) He did not, the "I" in Rice is on the other side of the keyboard from the "E" and he hit the "I" key only once(ii).

C) He did, he just spells as bad as Colonel Henderson.

D) He did not, he is trying to improve his post count.

Just joking Colt, what year did you play? I am also wondering what coach Reese is doing. Did his son go into coaching?

Coach Reese is living in central KY building houses. One son went into the Naval Academy and now is a consultant (I think) and the other is the OC at Owensboro.

Jeff Reese is an assitant at Owensboro and I have no idea what happened to Jason. I thought Randy was in TN somewhere but don't know that for sure.

David Barnes used the Franklin system when he was at Daviess. From what I'm told, Kimbrell's offensive scheme is pretty similar.

Barnes use a great deal of wing T in the backfield and with the exception of when Wimsatt QB'd, they did not throw a whole lot.

It's my understanding that Barnes used the Wing-T for most of his time at Daviess, then went to the Franklin system his last year or two before leaving for Caldwell County.

I don't think they are a variation of the Frankiln System, unless believing in the forward pass classifies you as a SYSTEM. Henderson was and Owensboro Catholic is a variation of the system. For better or worse I think DCHS has their own system. If I happen to attend the game I will come back and appologize if I see one Mesh , Y Cross, Shallow or any coach on the sideline yelling NASCAR, NASCAR! No disrespect to Coach Franklin or the system, it is a great offense.

The spread offense with a great deal of passing with short screens, skinny post patterns, and crossing patterns remind me off many of the things OC has done in the past and they even did it when Franklin was helping them. Just my opinion, but DC even lines up many offenses sets similar to OC from the years gone past. Now I do not know too many teams that employ 100% of Franklin, but Daviess looks on the surface, to be close as any team I have saw.

Wimsatts last year (2004) ? they sure did but after that they tried to but QB questions kept them from really having much success with it so it seemed they wavered back and forth on the mind set.

Duffer ran the Franklin offense, OC runs the Franklin offense, DC under Barnes ran the Franklin offence. Heck, OC had Franklin as their OC for a year. You can't get any closer to 100% then that. Half the teams in the South run Franklin's offense. You don't pay the kind of money it costs to learn it and not run it.
