What, exactly, is a pachinko parlor?

A pachinko machine is kind of like a pinball machine. They're wildly popular in Japan. They have parlors with dozens of the machines in them -- kind of like our casinos. Only thing is, you're not allowed to gamble so you actually play for the little steel balls that you use in the machines. You can then turn them in for prizes. The most popular "prize" just happens to be an innocent looking little box. You take the little box outside and down an alley. There you find a window where you can trade it in for cash. That's Japan for ya'!
