August 21, 200719 yr Every district is free to accept students as they see fit. Some accept students from outside the district, some don't. As far as opening the books, perphaps you could explain what you mean. Need based financial aid is awarded based on third party review by an outside agency. The ouside agency is from a list approved by the KHSAA. Are you suggesting that some question the integrity of these third party reviewers? What do test scores have to do with athletic participation? Guru has made a similar argument about publics limiting themselves without open enrollment. THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN privates draw students from multiple counties and what publics can do to draw students from multiple counties. Privates can offer financial aid, scholarships to lessen the tuition costs. I do not believe publics can offer scholarships to the star quarterback coming outside the county lines to offset the cost of tuition.
August 22, 200719 yr I do not believe publics can offer scholarships to the star quarterback coming outside the county lines to offset the cost of tuition. And neither can a private school. I am sick of this charge. Private schools can offer some, but not nearly enough, financial aid to STUDENTS. Athletics plays NO role in the process. Period. If you have ANY evidence that anything else is going on, turn it over to the KHSAA. I can't believe that anone really believes that all this widespread cheating is going on. If you believe that cheating is happening you also have to believe that either the cheaters are 100 percent successful with the students they target or that not even one of the students they target are willing to turn in the cheaters. That is unbelievable.
