12th Region in 07-08

Recommended Posts

Mainly just going by who each team lost and who they bring back, which may change by the beginning of the season, the way I see it it's Lincoln, Somerset, and Wayne County at the top. Somerset has not looked too overpowering this summer but they have as much potential as anyone in the region. Boyle, Mercer, McCreary, West Jessamine and a couple others should not be too far behind. Pulaski, Rockcastle, East Jessamine and Garrard may also be a surprise to me.

Rockcastle will probably be a one man show: Devin Hasty. If you don't know the name, learn it fast.

Why would a school like Rockcastle have to be a one man show? A school their size and the athletes that are there IMO they shouldn't be. Hasty could be their star, but they should be able to put together a good team.

McCreary will be about the same. They only lose about six points and eight rebounds per game out of their senior class, mainly because Josh Bartley never fully recovered from surgery. They will really push the ball this year and look for Adam Swiger, Josh Phillips, Aaron Watts to all be starters like last year? Who will step in for Devin Gibson and Corey Waters, the only size the Raiders had last year. Possibly senior Chris Hale and super sophomores Zach Roark (SG/SF), Ben Wright (PG/SG), and a slew of other fowards.

In the 48th, look for Wayne and McCreary to be the cream of the crop. Although McCreary lost twice to Wayne in the regular season, they poured it on the Cardinals during the tournament leading nearly the entire game by double-digits before blowing it in the final five minutes on missed free throws and turnovers by a senior guard.

Southwestern loses about everyone from their team and unless Shultz can really turn some young players in "players," they'll ride the bottom of the district with an improving Monticello.

Someone hasn't watched these boys play lately. There are some good athletes stepping up and become a vital asset to this team. I think we are going to see a turn around season with several good, younger players making Hasty look even better. Rumor is, Coach Blanton has made a great move this summer by adding a couple of younger, talented assistants to his staff. Andrew Cash being one of them!!! I've heard this is former coach Clayton Cash's oldest boy. Also, Matt Brown who holds a one game scoring record at the Rock. Cash will create some great guards while Brown helps that big, young center and his moves under the post.

Could be the sleeper team in the region this year!!!!!!

guys, be serious. Assistant coaches don't USUALLY make a difference in one season; and yes, Andrew Cash is an assistant (at least he was for the AAU team). There was another boy that came on strong last year, but I can't remember his name.

Rockcastle during the Cash era was usually a one-man-team. I don't mean that as one guy does all the work, it's a philosophy. One man dominates the scoring and all the routes and crosses are directed to him because of their abilities. Devin won't be the ONLY man on the floor, he will be the one with the ball.

Cash used this philosophy when Andrew was a junior and he used it for years with Aaron (Cash). Aaron would score 8-9 straight points and then suddenly BAM, Colby Brown hits a three, or Austin Miller would get a 12 foot jumper off a screen.

Basically what I am saying is that Blanton learned a lot from Cash and it looks like he is going to use some of that with his team this season.

...and Garrard may also be a surprise to me.

That's a possibility. They have a new coach this season after the former coach left to be an assistant a Centre College. This season and next could be good for the Golden Lions because they have a solid junior class. Here's hoping they can crack into the top of the district and make a little run in the region.

it wont be a one man show rock has several good players derek thacker jammie todd matt bullens brian clontz spincer mullins far from a one man show

First of allow me to say welcome to the site, it is nice to have another Rocket on board.

But on the other hand, you might want to read my OTHER posts that clarify what I meant by "one man show"

You mention the beast derek thacker, and some other players on this seasons team. I want to ask you something now: How many of those players other than Bullens averaged more than 10 PPG last season? So even if I look at my post the way you did, I am still right.

1. Wayne County- basically because Woods is the dean of coaching in region

2. Somerset- Return too much not to be in the mix

2a. Lincoln- lost athletes, but return experience and good guard play!

Rest of the field-

Boyle- Williams is a dandy and Bottoms has been there, could be a threat to anyone on any night

McCreary Central- they have coach of the year and Watts, Watts can take over a game and put them on his shoulders for a game or two but it takes 3 or 4 to get to the show!

West Jessamine- Cinderella season last year that ended with a thriller with champ Lincoln. Seems thier players have bought into the coach and seem to bring a level of play others cant every single night- to be determined if enough talent to win it all this year.

Mercer County- talent is there but can they mesh.

After the Top 6

Rockcastle, Garrard, Pulaski Co and East will have some talented player and could give anyone problems any night. Rest of the field with SW who has some talented JV players, Casey with a new coach, as does Danville.

Should be a balanced region and I would look to about 4 to come to the top around Feb but until then great region again. Good luck to all the teams and coaches I look forward to another great year in KY basketball
