I'll say this: Benham is too far to drive for a District Tournament. But then again, I would say it would be the same thing for the Tri-Cities team to drive to London.

I agree. But you are right, Tri Cities has made that treck before. They drove to Science Hill for the 2005 tournaments and London for the 2006 tourneys. The problem is that they are listed in district 4, but are right in the middle of district 3.

 

It was interesting to see 2 teams 10 minutes from each other drive 2 hours to play each other.

Congrats to those young ladies! I don't think North or South opted to play 13-14 year old this year. I hate that since they won state at least once the past 2-3 years.

 

South London won out in the losers bracket and will face North Laurel in the 11-12 year old championship game tonight in district 4. A long drive to Cumberland (200 mile round trip) to play a team 10 minutes from home!

Wasn't it a combined Laurel Co. team that went to the nationals last year? If I'm not mistaken, Gaines, M. Taylor, Cordero and a few others now getting varsity PT now were on that squad.

 

Why no interest this year? Are there a lot of would-be players instead opting for traveling teams?

I think you nailed it. More travel interest. You can play in the travel tournaments and get in 5-8 games in 2 days compared to only being able to play 1 game per day.
