New Rule Changes???

Recommended Posts

A big focus is helmet contact this year.

2-20, 9-4-3i, 9-4-3; Note New: Helmet Contact -- Illegal: is an act of initiating contact with the helmet against an opponent. Three revisions dealing with illegal helmet contact are an attempt by the rules committee to reorganize the existing rules and definitions by bringing them under one heading.

8-2-2: When there is a foul by the opponent of the team scoring a touchdown, an enforcement option has been added. The offended team can accept the result of the play; choose to have the penalty enforced on the try; or choose to have the penalty enforcement on the free kick.

I was just wondering if there are any new rules or rule changes for high school football this season for fans to be aware of?

I will hang up and listen to your response off air!!!

Thanks...that helps alot as I am wanting to make sure to be up-to-date on the newest changes before the season starts...always nice to know what the new rules are so you don't make yourself look like an idiot when complaining about a call that was made correctly be the men in black and white!!!

Yeah, I just had that happen to me last year on an interference call on a 4th down play for a TD. Guess I hadn't looked at the rules for a while.

8-2-2 is an excellent rule change. I have seen teams, players over the last 3 years who have gotten very good at hitting late and taking cheap shots after an opponent TD knowing it was only going to be a 1 1/2 yard penalty.

The helment contact rule is going to be tough. Some crews will let it go and some will call everything which will make it difficult on the players, coaches, fans and officials.

It shouldn't make it difficult on the officials. Call 'em as you see 'em!

You may be confused. There is a rule change concerning forearm pads, which deals with labels...

1-5-2c: Beginning in 2008, forearm pads must have a securely attached label or stamp (NFHS/NCAA specifications) indicating compliance with test specifications on file with the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association as of January 1, 1994.

Any gloves worn already need this stamp, and have since 1994.

I'm confused on the glove color rule. Is it:

1)Gloves must be grey.

2)Gloves may be any color but the color of the football and penalty flags.

They don't have to be grey in highschool, that's an NCAA rule. But they do have to have the NF/NCAA compliance label (which probably explains why most legal gloves on the market are grey).

offside

That's good to know! I better write that one down for the upcoming season. Thanks for your pearls of wisdom Yoda of the gridiron! :jump:

Now that I think about it, officials do talk a bit like Yoda.

Offsides was #76. 5 yard penalty and first down we will repeat. ;)

Is the face mask deemed part of the helmet? If so, how are you supposed to tackle now? (Please don't say with your shoulder.)
