Music verses you really like

Featured Replies

I heard it on some oddball radio station along the Bluegrass Parkway the other day (CD player hasn't worked in years, and tape deck recently retired as well), and I got reminded of how great a rock'n'roll moment it is when Meatloaf belts out …

"I want you (I want you)/

I need you (I need you)/

But there aintnoway I'm ever gonna love you/

Now don't be sad (don't be sad cuz)/

Cuz two outta three ain't bad"

Like its campier counterpart, "Paradise By The Dashboard Light," everything about Meatloaf has this epic quality to it, kind of like a white trash "Bohemian Rhapsody." And it just flat-out works.

Maybe musically, but during a bout of insomnia the night before last, I watched the movie "Black Dog" in its entireity; starring Patrick Swayze, Randy Travis and yes, Meat Loaf (as "Red"). Fairly forgettable.

Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio,

Our nation turns it's lonely eyes to you.

- Simon & Garfunkel, "Mrs. Robinson"

"And the people bowed and prayed

To the neon god they made

And the sign flashed out its warning

In the words that it was forming

And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls

And tenement halls"

And whispered in the sounds of silence"

- Simon & Garfunkel, "Sounds of Silence"

"There are many here among us

Who feel that life is but a joke

But you and I weve been through that

And this is not our fate

So let us not talk falsely now

The hour's getting late"

-Bob Dylan, "All Along the Watchtower"

"Lay down,

your sweet and weary head.

Night is falling.

You have come to journey’s end.

Sleep now,and dream

of the ones who came before.

They are calling,

from across a distant shore.

Why do you weep?

What are these tears upon your face?

Soon you will see.

All of your fears will pass away.

Safe in my arms,

you’re only sleeping.

What can you see,

on the horizon?

Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea,

a pale moon rises.

The ships have come,

to carry you home.

And all will turn,

to silver glass.

A light on the water.

All souls pass."

Hey there Delilah, I've got so much left to say

If every simple song I wrote to you

Would take your breath away, I'd write it all

Even more in love with me you'd fall, we'd have it all

I ain't a sayin' you treated me unkind

You coulda done better but I don't mind

You just kinda wasted my precious time

Don't think twice it's alright

Meet me in the middle of the air.

It's not like you killed someone

It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side

Praise the one who left you

Broken down and paralyzed

He did it all for you

In and around the lake

Mountains come out of the sky and they stand there

One mile over we'll be there and we'll see you

Ten true summers we'll be there and laughing too

Twenty four before my love you'll see I'll be there with you.
