It doesn't take a lot of intestinal fortitude to admit to libel or slander when you are immune from the civil liabilities that others aren't.

I don't know if this is what you are talking about but I saw on the news tonight that said because he made his statements on the steps outside of the courtroom he's not protected like he would have been if he had made his statements in the courtroom.

 

Does anyone know if this is true?

I've heard some speculation that he is not completely covered by immunity and others that say he is. Chances are it will have to go to court just to determine weather he can be taken to court or not.

Certainly could be an interesting twist if this is true.

Nifong stated that during his hearing today that he would be resigning as DA.

I watched Greta VanSustern(sp) last night where this case was discussed at length.

 

The four lawyers on her panel (and she's an attorney herself) absolutely condemned Nifong most of them saying he should face criminal charges.

 

They also has an interview of one on Nifing's victims (I think that is the proper word after what he did to them) who said at first they fell for his tearful act of contrition, but after hearing him say that he still believes something happened that night his his whole tearful soliloquy was nothing but a well rehearsed act to try to gain the sympathy of the panel.

 

It was also generally held by them that his resignation was an act intended to try to make the panel feel that he has been "punished" enough so that he can keep his license.

 

I had never heard that one of his comments at the outset of this whole fiasco was that if the three victims weren't guilty why did they get attorneys? My opinion is that Nifing fully hoped to bully these young men into confessing and then marching with chest out about how he had brought justice to the case.

 

Now here's my next question. Let's say Nifong is severely punished. Does that mean all of his past cases now becomesuspect like when a police officer is found to have broken procedure on 1 case?
