I can honestly say that I saw 3 of the best days of baseball at this tournament that I've ever seen in my life. Congrats to North for the first regional championship in school history, no one gave them a chance and they showed alot of heart winning tonight.

Darrin McWhorter said it best when it started raining a bit right after the game: "It must be tears of joy from Jon Hooker"

One of the parents called Jon's grandfather after the game and told him the news. He wanted to come, but didn't feel he could emotionally handle it. Upon hearing the news, he burst into tears. The banner that NL had with Jon's number on it was a banner of pride for those boys & girls (since the softball team is also won region).

It was an unbelievable year for the sports that Jon and Scarlett participated in at North Laurel. The cheerleaders won state at the high school and middle school, finished 2nd & 6th in the nation respectively and the baseball team did the unthinkable and won their first ever regional championship. I truly believe that both are smiling down on those kids from Heaven. It was absolutely unbelievable. If I wasn't there, I never would have believed it. Simply unbelievable!

I will say this for Middlesboro, they are one of the most powerful hitting teams I have seen all season. They have power all thru their lineup and some monster ball players. I was very impressed with their strength. I saw it against South Laurel, and honestly, it scared me to death. I was suprised that the NL pitchers kept them in the ballpark. The one deep to center than Edwards caught for North just as he slammed into the wall was a shot and a half. I thought for sure it was gone when it came off the bat.

If you would stop watching Reds games, you would see good hitters.

Mets ... HA! ... Go Braves!!

NL's Nick Shannon was the tourney's MVP and rightfully so. He had a GREAT tournament, as did all the NL kids! The all tourney team had Bray and Cochis from South Laurel and Shannon, Maggard, Sean Evans, Ryan Evans, Bryce Hicks and Logan Howell. Too bad that NL loses 3 of those players after the season is done.

If you would have asked McWhorter which team had the best chance to win region between this year's squad and last year's, he would have said hands down last year's team. This year's Jags came together the past few weeks and have played their best ball of the season.

Congrats to North for winning the championship.

I do have one question about the host site......how in the world did Bell County ever get to host with having barbed wire around the top of the fence? j/w

Congrats to the Jaguars, especially Seniors Davd Akers, Sean Evans, Bryce Hicks, Chris-O Maggard, and Daniel Smith. The heart NL played with was amazing, surely Jon Hooker is smiling down on them right now. NL had excellent pitching throughout the tournament, and the job that 8th grader John Damron did against the powerful Middlesboro lineup was amazing.

NL's outfield played at another level during the tournament, they were making plays that did not get made in the regular season. The unbelievable catch by RF Tyler Edwards was a perfect example of it. Thanks for the hard work out there guys. IMO, two double plays really played a key role in this championship for NL, the 5-2-3 one against Corbin late in the game, and the one that SS Ryan Evans did against Middlesboro in the 7th.

Someone asked who would of thunk it, well I did. I kept telling the boys they could play with any team in the Region, and imo, they did, and beat the best teams in it. Congrats also to the Coaches, and thanks to all of the NL fans for coming out to support the team.

I agree. I was very impressed with Middlesboro who played in 2 of the best high school baseball games I have seen in a 3 day span. Their left fielder made a tremendous catch on a foul ball as well. And Edwards, actually made 2 terrific catches. 1 when he hit the fence on the shot I thought was out of there and the 2nd on the final play of the game. What a great regional tourney from top to bottom.
