How come the games are going to be played so close to Ryle, and yet to far away from Somerset? Is it just the luck of the draw or what decides where it will be played?

Rotational basis and locations, are predetermined by the Region who is hosting. Site rotations can be found, at the KHSAA.

I was told today that the field we are supposed to play on is not completed yet, does anyone know if that is true? Was told it is a new field but no seating or press box and the infield isn't finished. We Jumpers bring a crowd with us to support our team.:thumb:

No...St Henry is one of the better fields in N KY and has been there for at least 7 or 8 years. They have about 100 of the old Cincinnati Reds seats on concrete tiers behind the plate and starting up the sidelines. They also have bleachers on the other side of the dougout. They have concessions, but no press box. We look forward to welcoming you to N KY and a great series of baseball.

I would love to see it moved to Champions Windows field, holds about 3000 and had 2500 there for the Ryle / Cov Cath Regional Finals, but as of now it's at St. Henery, which is a nice field but seats a lot less.

How many will St. Henrys field seat?

My guess between the dugouts in the Riverfront Stadium seats (which are first class BTW) around 400/450, and there are aluminum stands both up the third, and first base line that I am guess could seat another 300 hundred. Remember both are guesses.... If I remember when I go watch the Ky Colonels tomorrow at St. Henry, I will take along my camera..

 

Watched the Kentucky Colonels play a DH there today against the Future Stars and the field is in first class shape. Outfield grass and the infield are every bit as good as the condition of Champion Window Field but....and this is the big but, the seating, parking, restrooms and concessions aren't on the same page as Champion Window Field.... St. Henry is an outstanding High School baseball field, Champion Window Field is a very good even outstanding minor league ball park.....

It would have been nice if Somerset could have won the region last year - sectionals were at Pulaski County. Bad thing was, though, they would have had to play LexCath.

What are some of Ryles strengths and weaknesses?

 

Remember I am not a fan of the Raiders but I will be rooting for them as they are a ninth region team...

 

Defense: They will not beat themselves in the field. They might make a physical error from time to time, but you won't see them making a mental error. Senior dominated team, but no experience in the State Tourney in baseball. Some of the baseball players, were on the football team that was 4A state runner-up but baseball, this is there first time getting so far..

 

Pitching: Nothing overwhelming, just solid and deep. Will not walk a lot of batters, and you will hit the ball, but they will catch it. You will see a lot of junk, and it will be thrown for strikes.

 

On offense: They are a clone of CovCath. Head Coach is a former asst Coach and player for CovCath Coach Krumps who has had 21 consecutive seasons of 20 plus wins each year going for him. They play small ball. You will know what's coming, but can you stop them from doing it? Good speed nothing great, but the players understand how to run the basses. Again they will not beat themselves. Can and do score a lot of runs, and when you think you have them beat, you don't. They are deep also on the bench.....

 

To me at least, the biggest Ryle weakness is this is there first time going this far into the tourney..... Nothing else stands out big time to me. If I were pressed into saying something, it would be that Ryle doesn't have a kid (IMO) that can pop the ball out of the park on a regular basic. Good double hitters who can hit the ball into the power alleys, but not a stud that will go deep on every pitch.....

Somerset likes the fastball. The thing is, if Ryle's pitchers throw a lot of off spead stuff, Somerset will try to run wild on the bases. How is Ryle's catcher?

Pretty good assesment TOG. One exception. The fact that they have never been down state doesn't bother me. Most of these kids play 100 games a year and have been in BIG GAMES and AABC World Series in Oklahoma, Evansville ect. and it will not overwhelm them. They have big game experience and they know what it takes to win.

Ryle's catcher is above average for high school but does not have a rocket. He blocks the ball well and releases fairly quickly. The Ryle pitchers do a pretty good job of holding runners on and getting the ball to the plate quickly.
