Dan Tanna Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Let me preface this by saying that I have nothing at all against Rose Hill, or any of the fine young men that go to school there, but I do have a question to pose to everyone. Now I realize that there was probably a predetermined format for the All Tournament Team, but is that really a good route to go? The reason I ask is I couldn't help but notice that Rose Hill placed two members on the All Tournament Team. Rose Hill played one game, and were beaten 17-0 by Boyd Co. Not only were they shutout, but they were also no-hit. Wouldn't it have been more reasonable, or fair to pick two other players from either Ashland, or Boyd Co. who no doubt would have been more deserving to make the All Tournament Team? I guess the real question is should there be predetermined formats to the All Tournament Teams?
STRIKE3 Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 I've seen it both ways, each team choosing 2 and runner-up with 3, while District winner gets 4. I understand your point, especially with a no-hitter. At the same time, post-season accolades, are just that....Recognition awards for effort and perhaps, offense is more of a priority for some selections but defense/pitching, can garner a selection.

Good post...I believe it is mostly based on personal opinions on this issue. Rarely do you have a situation like this years, to where someone ends up scoreless and a no hitter, so it is hard to base a opinion for normal situations. Personally I feel it is hard to award a team 2 spots on the all tournament team under those conditions, but if that was the predetermined format, then all you can do is pick two out and give it to them. I agree that these are post-season awards, and this format would be OK for Regional play, but District play is not earned. Every team automatically gets a shot to play in the Districts, not everyone makes the Regional Tournament. Rose Hill has a fine young team and will definetly earn their spots on the all tournament team in the future, but this years spots should have went to someone else.:thumb:
MBWC41 Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 This was a unique situation considering that Rose Hill didnt have a single hit in the district tournament. I would think that doesnt happen too often. Strike3 mentioned earlier that defense or pitching could get a kid on the All Tournament team. However, in a 19-0 loss, the pitching and defense obviously werent that outstanding either. Personally, I think the two spots in question should have went to other kids in the tournament. I understand that we live in a society where everyone gets a trophy for trying, but in my opinion there were more deserving kids of the spots on the All Tournament team. If nothing else, only give one kid from Rose Hill a spot on the team. That way Rose Hill is represented. Give someone more deserving the other spot.
bobbyearl Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 In the 2 previous posts it was said this situation was unique and rare, thats not the case the same thing happened last year when Ashland beat Rose Hill by the score of 21-0 if memory serves me right and I am pretty sure it does. That Rose Hill team was also no-hit. They also had 2 on tourny team, the losing pitcher was one. I remember the buzz and the same things being said then. It does not make any difference to me how they do these things, but it seems to cheapen the accomplishment of the award. JMO

JMO True...And the sad part is even the young man that receives the award in that situation even knows it was not deserving.

Truth of the matter on these post season awards from district, regional, all-area, type awards is how many they can pick from 1 team. If your fool around with this stuff they need to pick the best players even if they are from 1 or 2 teams, otherwise dont bother.

There were several kids who had better tournaments than some who were selected. It is joke to set an amount to select for each team. Kids look forward to getting awards, and work hard to try and get them. But it is upsetting when you know that you played better than someone else, but was slighted because the all-tourn team had to select players from teams that didn't deserve to get them.
