I caught the tail-end conversation on a local radio channel in Paducah this morning talking about consolidating the schools in McCracken county? Is there any truth to this? Are they just talking about the county or the county and city? What kind of athletic situations could this create?

The McCracken County School board is highly considering combining Heath, Reidland, and Lone Oak schools together for one McCracken County High School. The reason the board gave was for financial reasons of the three schools. Right now it is just in the discussion stage, but from what I have seen and been told by some in the McCracken County school systems that it is a very real discussion and would not be surprised if this does not happen. Once again it all boils down to financial needs. The new school would not contain Paducah Tilghman as it is an independent school system, and of course St. Mary is a private school. Of course it would make their atheltic teams...i.e football and basketball...much more competitive. And their spring sports would be outstanding.

That is just what I have been told from people over in the McCracken school systems.

I saw the story about it on WPSD TV, if it does ever happen I could see it slowly bleeding PT athletics to death. Just like is happening to Mayfield and Murray. I would be suprised to see it happen in the forseeable future

Thats what I was thinking, I heard some folks saying they absolutely don't want Tilghman to get included in that but I could see the newly consolidated school pulling the good athletes away from PT.
