Funds generated from High School Football...

When a team host a Home football game, do they split the gate with the Visiting team? What about the concessions etc....?

I think the teams split the gate and the Home team keeps the concessions. Just wondering what the BGP's think on this subject...

I believe at Henderson they split the gate. One concession stand on the home side is the band boosters and one on the home side plus the vistors side is the athletic boosters.

Usually teams do not split the gate. On some occasions they do. Usually on big games that draw big gates. For example, Trinity and St. X used to split the gate (they may still do). This is to assure that you have money coming each year and one rain game will not destroy your athletic budget. But most teams do not practice this policy.

At Highlands I believe they split the gate, however the concessions go to the Ft. Thomas Lions club.

They allow an outside group to run the concession stand? Do neither the Band or Athletic boosters want the revenues?

It has been like this for years. The Lions club donates a portion of thier proceeds back to the program for the field.

Trinity splits the gate...I believe that all KHSAA varsity games do this...it is based on the honor system however.

I would think all schools split the gate. I just dont see how some of the smaller schools (poor fan support) can remain financially solvent (athletic dept.) if they did not get big dollars from a couple of games through out the year. Regardless of where the game is played, splitting the gate 50/50 seams like a fair thing to do... It also promotes the concept of Home and Home series scheduling, which is a good thing.

Forgive me, but this sounds like a horrible deal for the school.

Most teams do not split the gate until the playoffs. Usually that is why most teams sign 2 year deals home one year and away the next.

Well, maybe. However, they certainly have the system down and the man power to do all the work it takes to run a concession. They do give money back and it is a charitable cause which is always a good thing. The band makes money off the programs and the boosters have their fundraisers thru out the year. Yes it would be nice to have more money in the athletic kitty, however I think it may be tuff to get a good system of volunteers from just the boosters organization game in and game out, year in and year out to run a concession stand. Trust me, it is not a walk in the park to clean out, stock, open, work it , close, and clean again a concession stand.

That makes sense.

What giantkiller says is correct. Weeks 1-11 the gate stays with the home team...unless there is an agreement (ex. Mayfield - Graves).

In the play offs, the gates is split after the expenses are factored in.

Oh Henry, you loved buying, transporting, stocking and cooking your world famous sausage biscuits for the Jr. Football League 2 years ago. Not to mention cleaning and closing the stand every Saturday. Which reminds me, that was the duty of the league VP.   just joking LN.

It was certainly a life experience I won't forget anytime soon. I don't think my back will ever recover. LN did do a pretty good job with the garbage that year.
