Starters for today game; CovCath Bleser vs. Beechwood Elliott....

Elliott takes the lose, while Niehaus gets the victory....

 

CovCath opened the top of the first with getting the bases loaded but didn't score.

 

Beechwood got a couple of hits but an outstanding throw by the LF Stein to Pop to Maile gunned down the Beechwood runner at the plate.

 

The second and third found Elliott getting the CovCath batters out rather easily and Bleser doing the same for CovCath.

 

Bottom of the fourth found Beechwood getting on the board with a double and then a HR. It was hit to the right of the building and since there is no posted distance other than at the left field foul line of 338 my guess is that the ball traveled around 345 tops. BW 2 CovCath 0

CovCath didn't score in the top of the fifth but again BW went deep to about the same spot. BW 3 CovCath 0.

 

Bottom of the fifth found House pitching and getting BW out I think in order.

 

Until this time Elliott was doing a number on the CovCath hitters and after getting the first batter out, CovCath came alive and started to hit. A couple of hits by the Colonels, a error or two by BW and a bone head play by the BW third baseman, and all of a sudden CovCath is up 7-3 in the top of the sixth.

 

Isler came in to pitch the sixth and seventh and shut down BW to preserve the victory.

 

I won't single out any one CovCath batter though Maile hit Elliott hard, as it was a total team effort at the plate. I will single out Josh for pitching well, as did House and Ice. Isler made a great stop of a ball that was a sure hit and got the runner at first. I mentioned the play earlier of Stein, Popham and Maile.

 

Good game by both teams. Now we shall see by a blind draw who gets to play Cov Holmes as Beechwood, CovCath and Cov Holy Cross all tie with identical 2-1 records in the 35th district.

 

CovCath plays St. Henry at 7pm under the lights at St. Henry.....

 

BTW young Maile not only hit Elliott hard, but his play behind the plate and especially the tag at the plate in the first was a thing of beauty.....In a battle of possible POY's candidates today Maile won.......

How does a skinny kid like Elliott generate so much speed with his arm? He's very impressive. His location during the first 5 innings was very good - both corners were nailed. In the 7 run inning, the Colonels got some good licks in and BW helped the cause. Maile's double is probably a HR at most schools that do not have a 30 feet high wall.

 

I was a bit surprised to see Elliott pitch the entire game though. Is the bullpen tired?

How far is it to left-center? 420? Darner's last hit would probably have been out but it was like hitting it to center field in old Forbes Field.

 

Slusher's HR is out at almost every high school field. Elliott's would be close in most parks.

 

I don't think I've ever been to a game where all of the visiting fans sit behind home plate and all of the home team fans sit behind the fence in left center.

1 of them was a courtsey runner for the catcher ,probably would of been in the OF if not for a sore arm .he usually starts in center when Elliott pitches .The one who has pitched and played infield did not ,but IMO should of been in the infield .This is my opinion !!

The young man in CF yesterday would of been at 1st base .At least that is the way it has worked in the other games .Yesterday was soph more Brady Slusher who has a very good future ahead of him

OK. If its runs, Beechwood is out since they gave up 7 to CCH and CCH gave up, I think, a total of 5 to BW and HC. Looks like HC would win with only 4 runs given up. If so, rematch time for Krumps and Myerhoff.

It says ALL seeded games. This one doesn't specify if it's just the three teams involved in the tie or all teams in the district. You would think just the three...

Good question.

The boys were advised that it would be a hat draw on who plays who, don't know when the draw will be, but I guess it will be soon.

If all games including Holmes:

 

BW 16 given up.

HC 4 heading into the Holmes game.

CCH 5

 

Holmes needs to score 2 if you're CCH. If they score one, HC wins the tie-breaker.
