Congratulations South Laurel Lady Cards on a great victory over North Laurel!!! I think this victory shows that that polls dont really mean a thing.North will always be ranked over South even though they havent been to the state in 3 years!!!That's ok we like being the underdog.

Gains pitched for South and Cobb for North.Taylor came in for Cobb in the fourth inning. South scored 2 in the first on errors.Justice had a big night she hit a double with the bases loaded.I think she went 3 for 4, the entire team hit well for SL.I believe NL had 3 hits and SL 15 hits.

I could be off on some of the stats but the final score was 7-0.

I see. So Weaver took a page from the Durham playbook and sandbagged against South.

Nice game for Porsha, though!

North may not have used Sears but you cant blame it on the pitching because North didnt hit the ball.South had good defense behind their pitcher.

Go Cards!!!

What happened to Sears for North Laurel?

Since the two teams are no longer in the same district, the regular season game is essentially meaningless. Durham held Sears out against South last season until they met in the region semis. Apparently Weaver has elected to do the same to keep SL from seeing Sears too much and developing a comfort level against her. Good strategy, IMO.

I have to disagree with you Schue.

This game isn't meaningless, especially the way South killed the ball at the plate and looked like they had something to prove.

This game has meaning because North needs a win (confidence-wise) against a team that has won the region the past couple of years. I'm not the only one that feels that way, just ask Weaver and the North fans that came and filled the stands t South.

If you look at the fans in attendance, maybe you should say South thought the game was meaningless because its stands were bare (but it was cold as heck).

Granted North didn't pitch Sears, but Gaines still shut down the same North offfense (3 hits) she would be facing if the two teams face each other in the region tournament with Sears pitching.

Saying North sandbagged is going a little bit too far, IMO and in Coach Weaver's opinion too after the game.

If North continues to play defense (FIVE ERRORS) the way they did and have been, then it doesn't matter if Becky Abner comes in and pitches.

This South team is underrated and a whole lot better than last season and can hit like no other south team has before and can play some solid defense, too.

The Lady Cards are a whole lot better than the No. 17 ranking.

I don't think Durham plan worked out like he hope. It takes all 9 plyers to play a game.

Call it sandbagging, or whatever prettier term you want, but it's still a calculated strategic move so that when they meet in the region — and they will meet in the region — SL won't have seen Sears this year.

And Les, you know what I mean when I say "meaningless." In the grand scheme of things, all that matters is what happens in the postseason.

And it's not the same North offense with Lawson out.

I do agree that South is underrated, but until the shady way that the voting is tabulated is changed, well, they'll continue to be underrated. I wonder if it has even dawned on JM that the law of unintended consequences has gone into effect. Kaye Smith might gripe about it in public, but she loves to use the bulletin board material and the "lack of respect" angle to motivate her team. And to great effect.

North committed too many errors, left too many runners on base early (in one of the early innings had the bases loaded with only 1 out and couldn't score), got behind 2-0 early and when they failed to drive runners across the plate they began to free swing and against a pitcher like Justice that is bad news, ... and South just looked like they wanted it more. I'm not worried about the Lady Jags. They will be fine. They are VERY young with only 1 senior on the squad and tons of talent coming over the next several years.

South was solid that night, ... VERY solid! Hats off to the Cards!

If you don't score it doesn't matter who you pitch.

True, but the strategy changes in a 7-0 game then if you are in a 1 or 2 run game. The Jags became impatient and Justice pitched a great game.

Justice is a good pitcher but it was actually Gaines who pitched against North Laurel. She did a great job and is only a freshman.SL is also a young team starting 4 jrs., 3 sophmores,1 freshman and 1 eighth grader.

SL and NL both have great teams and bright futures!!!!
