cvillecat Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Congratulations to Russell on the win. Who were the starting pitchers?
MVP_007 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Rams started with Phillips in the first, followed by Grizzle in the second, and Morris in the third inning. Wilson pitched the fourth and fifth, Reynolds the sixth and seventh. The Rams basically treated this game as a scrimmage. Coach Vanderhoof wanted several different pitchers to throw in order to be prepared for the All A, which is this friday. Although the Rams did not hit the ball extremely well, if Grizzle, Phillips, or Morris would have pitched this game then the devils would have easily been shut out. It will be interesting to see how different the score is when one of the Rams top pitchers is on the mound the entire game.
oldrambler Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Tough loss for the Rams in imo a game they should have won. That is not to "bash" Russell at all, they are good - I just think that Raceland has an excellent team this year and might be a favorite in the 16th region behind Boyd Co..
oldrambler Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Good Luck to the Rams in the All "A" Region this week!!! :thumb:

I am sure that Coach Hoof wanted to get the pitchers some work before the All-A Classic but I guarantee you that he is not happy with a loss. You can't take anything away from Russell, they came into Ram Country with the mindset to win the game and they completed their task. Good luck to the Rams in the A-Classic. I hope they have their hitting shoes on.
MVP_007 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Im telling you cville, its a totally different ball game if one of the rams aces are own the mound. Grizzle and Morris both struck out the side in the inning that they pitched. Phillips also did a great job on the mound in the first inning.

I agree with you that it may have been a different outcome if the Rams aces had been in for the duration. Grizzle, Morris, & Phillips are as good as anyone in the region. I have watched them pitch since their days in AABC. I only pointed out that no matter what game plan Coach Hoof had,I am sure he was not happy with a loss. A winning attitude becomes contagious and I know that each Ram player approaches each game with the "we will win" mindset. I hope that your prediction of a shutout comes to be true and you do not have to be served the proverbial dish of fresh crow. Good luck to the Rams in the A Regionals.
bobbyearl Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Its early but looks like Greenup might be the early favorite in this district.
FBALL Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Two of Raceland's runs were unearned. You can play the what if game all night.

Grizzle did strike out the side (the first two were a sophomore starting his first game #7 hitter and freshman # 8 hitter), but not before giving up a single to a senior and walking another senior. He was throwing well, but not dominating. Morris looked great. It definitely would have been a much different ballgame had one of the Rams aces pitched the entire game, but: #1 -The Devils couldn't have easily been shutout by the three you named since they scored 2 earned runs off of Phillips. #2 - No matter who the Rams pitched, all of their regulars batted the entire game and only managed 5 hits and 1 earned run off a Russell pitcher who is definitely NOT their ace. How about actually giving the Devils their due. You sacrifice a DISTRICT game to count it like a scrimmage? I doubt it.

Doesn't matter MVP, a loss is a loss............. no excuses and you don't have to tell cville or I anything about Raceland. Especially cvillecat on Raceland baseball, imo he is one of the best to ever play baseball at Raceland and I believe is still the best hitter that I have seen there . Cvillecat, M. Hunt, B. Trimble, C. Vandergriff are the four best that come to mind right off hand and I might add T. Tolliver in that group also :thumb: , very good hitter but not as good as the four mentioned earlier .

I know for a fact that Phillips,Grizzle, and Morris were all treating this game as just a glorified practice. All pitchers were basically just trying to get some in-game experience and some pitches in before the Alll A this friday. None of them were really showing thier best stuff and they still looked very good. I never really noticed any of them reaching back and REALLY letting go of a pitch.
