2007 Dixie Schedule

Because if Dixie wins everyone says it is because they should beat a small school and if they lose everyone predicts they will be lucky to win a game all year. If NCC loses everyone says it is because Dixie is three times the size and if NCC wins everyone says starts engraving another state trophy.

All that for a preseason scrimmage where some starters play a half and some play maybe 3 quarters.

I think this is a GROSS exagerration. I don't think that much emphasis is placed on a scrimmage by those who coach or play. NCC plays a number of big schools during the regular season and no one has ever brought this point up that I know of.

This has nothing to do with the players or coaches. You'd have to be around here for a couple years to understand what APNW is saying. Every year, a few fans blow this game out of the water as far as the year's expectations for each team goes. I'm sure this year will be no different.

Hang around here and you'll see. Even the big guy (Guru) was on Dixie's case for weak effort the last couple of years.

Based on what several people have said there seems to be some truth to this, but WHY is this game any different than any other scrimmages in NKY in supposedly determining how these teams will play during the season? It doesn't make any sense at all. It's not like Dixie/NCC are huge rivals or anything. From everything I know the coaches and players get along fine, so what's the big deal?

It's a rare 1A versus 4A scrimmage.

The outcome adds a point of reference to the regular season rankings. Since Dixie and NewCath have recently been in the top 5 and don't play in the regular season, supporters argue who is better based on which team won the scrimmage. This gives way to the question of how much emphasis was put into winning the scrimmage. I don't think playoff success or failure can be gauged from this scrimmage.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the coaches or players.

In fact if you watch the game coaches run players in and out as in any scrimmage and try players out at key positions were Seniors were the year before. One year Dixie was trailing 14-6 and scored a TD at the end and simply kicked the PAT to make it 14-13 as they would if it were in the second quarter instead of the end of the game. Last year Dixie went right down the field two times in a row scoring twice and looking great and then gave up 21 straight while maybe getting one first down. So the good and bad swings for both teams just made for good Bluegrasspreps talk.

I think Dixie has chance to do real damage this year.

The key word here is SCRIMMAGE. Anyone who really thinks they can draw any conclusions from these two teams in a pre-season scrimmage are really desparate for something to talk about Both coaches are too good to place any emphasis on winning, so you have the situation you mention.
