Dont get me wrong here, Scott county is good, I was at the state tourney and I was setting by a person that played ball here in ky and won the state tourney on the 50's and he was a all american at Kentucky( I wont release his name). I was asking him about . His team compaired to todays and He said todays teams dont know what DEFENSE is. Its all offence. He said there team would beat scott county with ease. just a little info ...

 

That gentleman is dead wrong. Today's teams are too athletic. And I think there are a lot of good defensive teams out there. All 4 teams that played on Saturday played good defense.

Player for player this team may not be the best on paper but no other team ever has accomplished so much. They played 16 against the top 20 teams in Kentucky, 11 of these games were against top 10 games, but still went undefeated in Kentucky. This team beat the state champion from Nevada, who had a top 10 player in the country, the best team from Baltimore, and the state champion and then #1 ranked team from West Virginia. I think this team earned the right on the court to called the all time best, they accomplished the most.

Did he play for Lafayette? I'll bet it was Veron Hatton. Beat Paducah Tihlman badly in the finals of Sweet 16 I think.

The 1979 Lafayette team with Dirk Minifield and Tony Wilson was very, very good. They did not go undefeated in Ky as I believe that Byan Station beat them early in the season.

 

That team and Scott Co 2007 would be an interesting match up.

Actually Lafayette was undefeated until the district final when they lost to Tates Creek. But, they were definitely one of the best teams I ever saw along with Male's team of 75 with Turner and Griffith, Clay Co with Russ and Ritchie Farmer. Plus, you could throw in Fairdale's teams of the early 90's that won back to back State Titles with Morris, Brown, and Turner.

This Scott County team was outstanding but I cannot call them the best of all time. With the history of great teams in Kentucky high school history in mind I would place this team in the top ten I have seen in my lifetime. I got to see some of those great Clay County teams, Paintsville, Louisville Male and some others as well. I would be hard pressed to not have the championship team of Paul Blazer in 1961 as the all time best. They had multiple D1 players on that team including Larry Conley who went on to have a great career at UK. I know that Harold Sargent played on that team too, had an awesome career at Morehead State as well. In addition to those two I think UK had players sign with Cincinatti and maybe Army or DePaul, not positive, but they had at least 4 sign with division one schools off of that team to the best of my knowledge. They made it back to the championship game the next year with Conley leading them but lost in the finals.

In reading this thread and thinking about it, I think the most appropriate description of this 2007 team is the are the most accomplished Kentucky high school team in the past 60 years.

I would go along with that. No team accomplished more.
