Coaches - Referees

Featured Replies

He cares about what he is doing and about the kids. Trust me he wouldnt have 2 titles if he just sat down and didnt do anything. It's sad that people can't talk trash about the team right now so you have to attack Billy.

Good coaches know how to work the refs. I think some fans get fired up because coach Hicks is very animated with his arms and his facial expressions. The reason referees listen is because he talks to them with respect and explains what he sees - though a person in the stands might think he's really getting on them - and sometimes he really is getting on them:sssh:  ;)

Hicks demands his teams be very intense. He leads by example.

Any time a coach is really successful like Coach Hicks is people are going to find reasons to dislike him. Any successful coach will be criticized to no end. No one will admit it, but I believe its jealousy.

As for the Holmes game, those refs could have called a walk on Holmes every other time they made a move that morning.

Maybe Coach Hicks was talking about spring fishing with those referees, he knows what he is doing on the lake, river or Basketball court. Congrats on another state title.

Its minners not minnows where me and Bill come from. As far as cooking, its by nessissity. Betsy aint goina cook nothin'. lol.

Coach Hicks may spend his spring break in the headwaters of the Cumberland river fishing his old honey holes. I sure hope he does not decide to come back to Harlan County once the new school is built....it would make life rougher on my Redhounds if Billy Hicks was at the controls of the new school in Harlan Co. Be good to him and keep him up in Scott til he decides to move onto the college level.

He has mentioned that he would like to build one more program before he retires. However, I don't think Harlan Co High will be it. Mike Jones wants the job and it is his for the taking. I think if Bobby Keith, Billy Hicks, John Wooden, Billy Donavan, and Mike Jones applied Jones would get this job.

I am happy to hear that Billy will not be patrolling the sidelines at Harlan Co. Mike Jones is a good coach as well, but he is not Billy Hicks. Maybe Coach Hicks will find a nice college job somewhere along the coast in South Carolina. That would be a fitting end to his story and allow him to build that one last program.

He says that he has no desire for college coaching either. Did you know the small college jobs in Kentucky such as Cumberlands and Union pay about 1/2 of what a decent high school job pays? If Tony went from Corbin to the head man at Union he would take a 50% cut in pay.

We are happy with Coach P and hope he stays a long time in Redhound land. Coach P is learning more and more each year and has established himself as one of the best young coaches in the Mountians. I am not sure what he gets paid at Corbin, but I am sure it is nowhere close to what Coach Hicks makes at Scott County.

I don't have a clue either, but I am guessing there is not a huge amount of difference.

Heck , a 10th grader could of took those boys to the state and won, A coach is only as good as his players, And His players were real good:sleep: .

Why do you think they are so good? Its because Coach Hicks works them and develops them so well. There is a lot of schools with a ton of talent (see Ballard and Holmes). Coach Hicks did an amazing job with that team.
