2007 Rockcastle County

Featured Replies

I know before the season starts I will make some useless threads about Rockcastle Rockets football. So I created this thread for anyone (Including myself) to post random things like, 40 times, thoughts, combine results, questions, comments, etc...

Plus Rockcastle fans that are not members can see these threads and it may "flirt" them into joining. Who knows?

I'll be first since I started this thing:

It looks as if we are going to be VERY small at reciever. The only "tall" returning reciever we have is Tanner Perkins.

After the loss of Dusty Miller and 4 offensive linemen (Robbins/Durham/Mink/sorry can't remember the fourth), can Cody Mize (or whoever starts at RB/HB/TB this upcoming season) pick up the slack?

It looks like speed is going to be there strong point. They have several small, fast runners but they pack alot of punch. They also have Scott Daughtery coming back and the have Dereck thacker 6'5" 265.

The ROCK will be okay. People will be surprise to see what the line will pack this year. They have plenty of talent in the backfield that are young but will get the job done.

Having so many weapons at RB will be key. They have the best of all worlds in the backfield. With 3 kids that possess all different kind fo looks.

Cody Mize is quick and speedy, 2nd leading rusher on the team last year as a 10th grader.

Dakota Mcferron, quick and powerful, ran for over 2400 yards in JV and Freshmen last year as a 9th grader.

Casey Hayes, resembles a Dusty Miller as he is strong, short and cut. The only difference is Casey has as much power as Dusty did speed, vice versa. Casey I think cleaned over 325lbs as a 10th grader last year. Started MLB as well.

Awesome for the Rock, bad for opponents. So freshstart do you think they will go "RB by committe"? If not, who do you think gets the nod?

Isn't this always the story at the rock. I absolutely love it. Small, undersized players who play soooooo hard and want to win. They leave it all on the field. One of my favorite high school players ever is from the rock. Number 24 back in 02. Can't remember his name. He was it.

In 02 there was alot of talent. Those boys played some real smash mouth football

You wouldn't be talking about Marty Regan would you?

Yes. Wow! What a talent. I haven't followed Rockcastle to much, but he's got to be at least on of the best ever in MT. Vernon.

I am only 19, but he is the best I ever remember. He had so many rushing yards and touchdowns, but what I remember most was the smashmouth defense he played to be so little. He embodied what Rockcastle football is.

Marty Reagan was an outstanding running back. I remember when we played them his senior year. He absolutely killed us. I think they beat us 66-0 that year. We didn't hit him often, but when we did we laid it to him. I remember he had a gash across the bridge of his nose, and blood streaming down his face, but still ran all over us.

What happened to him? I heard that he had offers from colleges, but wasn't very well rounded in the classroom.

Bell County football would not be the same without the Rockcastle rivalry. High School football at its best. Two legendary coaches with storied programs. We look forward to the battle/s. How are the Rock's special teams this year after graduation? Durham was making great improvement with his kicking by end of season. Who is stepping up to replace him?

TomLandry, you and most of the Bell County fans are real class acts, (every team has fans they aren't proud of, Rockcastle included). 3Wishes and the rest of the Rockets staff may "kill" me for saying this but a Freshman may be the next kicker. Remember Matt Burkhart from last year? His OTHER little brother Brandon, may be the next kicker. He is a freshman, but he has a golden foot.

With that being said, I don't claim to have inside information and I don't claim to be an expert. I am just giving my opinions that I base on experience and observation. (Don't worry I hear "locker room talk" too  )

Well that's half the fun of it isn't it? Thanks for the good words. I really enjoyed going up to Rock last year for both contests. (Didn't enjoy the ride home as well, Ha!) LOL! The fans at Rock and Bell truly appreciate good football. I had to sit on Rockcastle side the first game. I heard nothing but good comments from the fans. It was fall football at its best. Bell was truly outmanned last year, but played both games with heart. Bell put themselves in a position to win that first game. Had we scored on that last drive....the playoff would have come to Log Mountain. Who knows what that would hve meant for second matchup. Shane Popham (CCHS and son of Gpopham of BGP fame) had a disadvantage following two D-1 kickers his sophomore and junior year. He only got one year of varsity starting. Bell's kicker got to start all the games his freshman and sophomore year. He enters this year as junior with two years experience. I think that letting a freshman get a shot and develop will certainly give the young man a better chance at having a long and productive hs career. Certainly will be an area that will help Rock compete with teams like Bell in the kicking game. Didn't Miller return kicks last year? If so what about the other special team players?
