I have been asking around the school, and NOBODY has ANY idea who will be the new kicker.

Brandon Burkhart (as I mentioned before, a freshman) is still the #1 choice among players. I haven't seen Tom Larkey yet.

Coach Larkey has been there 21 years. He was a coach at both Laurel County and Cawood.

Make that 22 years starting on his 23rd. Tony Saylor has been there with Larkey the entire time. Son Chris just finished his 17th year. All assistant coaches played at the Rock.

Everyone at the Rock must be thrilled that there is a possibility that two Rock players could be on the O-line for UK next season, Durham and Leger. That is very exciting for the community I don't care where you are.

I love Rockcastle football and I know that even when the talent isn't always there the heart is and that is what Cole Abney, Devon Mason and Trenidy Coffey. BTW my room-mate is Devon Mason's brother.

I agree Rockcastle football is played with heart. Everyone of those boys got it!

What does Rockcastle County need to do to improve in 2007? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Rockcastle County needs to offer a more balanced attack. In the state runner-up years of '01 and '02, Larkey complemented Reagan with a a formidable passing game that accumulated nearly 5,000 yards in the two years. They kept defenses on their heels and allowed Reagan and a talented offensive line to get 5-7 yards a pop.

Burkhart matured in his three years as a passer, and in his senior year of '05 they displayed a pretty good passing attack and the Rock played in the state semis. The sophomore Bishop seems to be a pretty talented young quarterback. If Larkey can get him to buy into the system that made the Rock successful in '01, '02, and '05, the Rock shows a lot of promise because the running game will be there.

I totally agree, you can't ALWAYS run 40-45 times a game and expect to win. With no disrespect intended to Ike (Isaac McQueary), he wasn't exactly Marino or Elway. Matt was fairly good and we got a tough break in 2005. Bishop has the tools, let us see if he can polish them. (Man that sounded bad :creepy: )

There sure is alot of teams that run it 45 times a game and win. Rock, Bell, Belfry, Matney coached teams, Mercer, Russell, Lynn Ray coached teams, Danville. Just to name a few.

Oh I agree. That is why I said you can't ALWAYS run 40-45 times a game. Notice each of those teams has lost a game.

Mercer ran the ball that many times last year they never lost a game. Belfry did the same in 03 and 04.

They ran the ball 45 times in every game!

Hey, the sun shines on a dogs.... nevermind, you get the point.

Typically, if the defense can read what you are going to do on a consistent basis, your team is in trouble. Belfry has a tradition of ALWAYS playing that style of football. Which means they are preparing and learning to run that style. It comes to no suprise to anyone that teams like Belfry, Rockcastle, Bell County, and Danville will run 3-4-5 times in a row, and get first downs. In the case of Rockcastle though, when they went to the state championships, the basic gameplan didn't change, (and I wont blame a 300 gmae winner for that) and Boyle county was stopping the run.

What all my posts are boiling down to is the simple fact that a team has to have he ABILITY to change up the plays. I'm not saying that if the RB is getting 5+ yards a carry to stop running; just be able to change it up. This young rocket team will need to know that and Chris Larkey will certainly drill that into their heads.
