March 13, 200719 yr That's not bad. Maybe add one more game with your "rival." Maybe Cincinnati-Louisville, so there's always a home-and-home. I thought about that, but what happens if say Cuse and Nova both claim UConn as their "rival"....That would lead to more unbalance which is what everyone's trying to remove. UC/UL and USF/DePaul....I know which is more enticing to me...

March 13, 200719 yr Author Play each of the 15 teams once. Only have a 15 game conference schedule, which would give you the abilility to beef up the OOC with the extra game. That's leaving a ton of TV money on the table...
March 13, 200719 yr IMO, you split the league in 4 4 team divisions and you play the other 3 teams in your division twice and the other 12 teams once..That gives you an 18 game conference schedule, then , when it comes to the BEast tournament, you take the best team from the 4 divisions and give them the byes in the 1st round with the next 8 teams, based on record and have them play in the 1st rounds of the tourney...

Like I said before, it's a good theory but it still doesn't change the November and December issues. It's clear they can't afford to play mid majors on the road and risk a loss to a team likely fighting with the BEast for an at large spot. November and December schedule is what needs to be figured out...

If thats the case, I don't see alot of difference between that and a 16 game conference schedule..It would seem to me, that any power conference that plays a midmajor on the road, runs the same risk..
March 13, 200719 yr Cincy UCONN Georgetown-must go D-1 football Louisville Pitt Rutgers USF Syracuse Villanova-must go D-1 football West Virginia Marshall-C-USA Memphis-C-USA If the above refuse to go D-1 then you take - Western Kentucky when they go D-1 Southern Miss-C-USA All this is assuming that ND says no to joining as a football member. This is the best way for the Beast to get right in basketball and football A 16 team conference in basketball just doesn't wok IMHO

March 13, 200719 yr I agree on your assumption that if they played a 30 game conference schedule that the leagues teams would have strong RPIs, but, I don't think it would guarantee an 18 win team a berth in the tourney...RPIs are simply 1 piece of the puzzle...On the downside of this scenario, who from your conference would go to the dance if you had league parity and no dominant team and all the teams records ranged from say 18-12 to 12-18. You wouldn't have the non conference strength of schedule to fall back on, or any quality out of conference wins that often seperate the evenly matched teams...
March 13, 200719 yr Author I guess I'm missing your point....You're losing me 16 or 18 games doesn't matter. Teams are in need of a soft November and December because the conference is so large and the home and home games are determined largely by TV contracts. That leaves you with unbalanced schedules and even more for the committee to find flaws with. I guess it's just realizing that the thought process of running like a 10 or 12 team league isn't going to work and they need to think a little outside the box if they are going to fix it...
