Where are the young men making a impact at the tryouts ? The 8 th and 9th graders , maybe even 7th graders that are going to make the cut this year .Who are they , where do they play and if you know who they play summer ball for .

I've heard some talk about young talent but no names as of yet .Let's get the names out there .

 

3 WEEKS TO OPENING DAY !!

I am the former coach of an AAU team called the Ky Comets. Over the past 5 summers our team has played around 300 games. Although the team no longer exist here are some of the products of our hard work.

 

Brandon Alphin - Brandon is a freshman pitcher/middle infielder who will be playing at Bullitt East. Brandon will be touching the 80's this year with his fastball and will be a very effective JV pitcher. He could possibly see the mound in varsity games. More likely however he will compete for the starting 2B position.

 

Matt Bowles - Matt is also a freshman pitcher/middle infielder who will be playing at Bullitt East. His bio is nearly identical to Brandon's. These two have worked together as middle infielders for 6 years but will compete for a position a 2B this year.

 

Casey Robinson - Casey is a freshman at Bethlehem high school. He will play middle infield and probably lead-off for the JV. It looks like his speed (delivered a 4.7 40 time at indoor facility) may find him a way into the varsity line up. Currently he is playing 3rd base at that level. Casey will be a top freshman in the 5th region

 

Keaton Hall - Keaton is a freshman at Bardstown high school. As an 8th grader last year Keaton anchored 3rd base and saw extensive pitching action on the varsity level. Keaton will be one of Bardstown's top hitters this year and will be one of the stongest freshmen in the 5th region.

 

Tyler Wright - Tyler is a freshman at Marion Co high school. Last year as an 8th grader Tyler saw alot of varsity action on the mound. He will return this year as one of Marion Co's top pitchers and is sure to be one of the strongest freshmen in the 5th region.

 

Zack McCarty, Justin Jones, and Caleb Vogelsang are all sophomores and will see considerable varsity action.

 

These are some of the top kids in their age group and should all see varsity action. They are used to playing winning baseball and will be huge assets to their respective team.

Boyd County has some Middle School kids that are on the JV team that will be making a huge impact in a few years.

This is all of the younger kids making the cut in the state ? Seems like there would be more .:confused:

Trevor Gott is listed as a freshman on Tates Creek’s baseball website. He may have the most acclaim as a freshman. He made All-American from Travel Ball Select last year, yet he played on 13U.

 

Trinity definitely has a strong core of players, including Porter, Carney, Littrell and Bowling. I don’t know how much they have beyond that, but those four are very good. There sophomore class is very good as well.

 

St. X has Ben Pelham. I don’t know a lot about their other players. I heard, too, that Matt Spalding is going there next year. He played well in the 13U Elite World Series last summer with the Houston Angels. The Houston Angels finished 5th. I had heard he is playing a number of tournaments with the Houston team this year.

 

Ballard has Fidanza. He played with the Cyclones. Rumor has it that Gardenhire, a freshman last year at Trinity that played on AAU teams out of Knoxville with Chris Berry, has transferred to Ballard.

 

Josh Whitmer at Bullitt East has a lot of raw talent.

 

PRP has Hickman and Banks. PRP has always had numbers. Those two should be the cream of crop as freshman. Again, both were Cyclones last year.

 

Do erring is at Manual. I had heard that he made the Varsity. He played on the Cyclones last year as well.

A couple of freshman not mention but in that same crop of travelers are at Male. Ryan Messex was very strong catcher and bat for the Comets, and Cameron Mason for the Metro Bats is one of the more talented players in that group.

The Comets team sounds familiar , ever play around the No.Ky or Cincy area ? Spalding Played for the Louisville Lightning 2 years ago maybe . Pelham sounds familiar too , did he play for the Lightning ? Lightning was a very solid team that was very deep in pitching and played great defense .

Rosters should be set by now ,anyone else making noise as a new kid on the block ? Keep it going , give the kids some credit . :thumb:

Pehlham played for the Louisville Owls last year and I believe for the Lyndon Lightning before that. He had moved from Lexington, Ky, a few years ago and played a lot of baseball in the Lexington area. Spalding played up in age group last year in Louisville with the Owls.

 

Joe Brown is a freshman at Butler. He's very athletic with a lot of potential. Daniel Pardue is there--also with a lot of petential. McGrath is another Louisville Owls player that has a bright future. He changes speeds well now. If he grows and adds a little more velocity on his fastball, he could be tough. He's a lefty, as is Pardue.

 

 

Ben Boes is improving a lot. He's a freshman at Manual with Doering.

The best Freshman in the state may be Cole Sturgeon at Owensboro Catholic. He won 5 varsity games on the mound last year as an 8th grader for OHS. He beat Owensboro Catholic in the first game of the district last season and enrolled in high school there this season. He will be their starting centerfielder and will be in their rotation. He is the real deal.

You are right. He is a great player and possibly one of the best freshman in the state. What are they gunning him at now?

I talked to his junior legion coach today and he said that they had him on the gun this summer and he was consistently 81 to 83. Not bad for a 14 year old kid. His high school coach also informs me that he is the best outfielder on O Catholics team. Not bad as well considering they will probably be a top 10 team in the state at some point this year.

ive been out on the road watching some games and the games i've caught havent featured a few of these kids the way they've been built up. I've seen some good things out of the jv kids at trinity & prp, and thats about it. there's a few guys out there on the freshman teams that are catching my eye, and i went for another look and i'm still impressed. A catcher from trinitys fresh team, Sam Shadowen and another kid Torry Cannon, i hadnt heard anything about either of them. Both have varsity arms and Cannon is a hitting machine, that made several nice catches out in the county. they keep working with these 2 and maybe another, theyll be in good shape next year. st x's Pehlham gets attention but the kid i'll be watching is Russ. Butlers freshman has a long way to go, but i do see some good things at male in the previously mentioned two M's, Messex and Mason. I'm scouting for 3 yrs from now and i'm betting on my list to be there.

Painstville's freshman pitcher Austin Lyons:

 

Split between JV and Varsity Austin has compiled a 3-0 record with 2 saves in 14 innings. He has allowed 0 hits while walking 6 and striking out 28. :eek:

 

Varsity alone he is 1-0 with 2 saves, 5 walks and 16 K's in 8 innings.

 

Atta boy Austin...For the record, he gets all of his talent from his Uncle...

Tyler D'Agano has a 2-1 record for Frankfort (2-7). He is only an 8th grader. His only loss was @ Harrison County.

 

Other starting youngsters for the Panthers include: 7th grader Rodney Gross CF/SS, Freshman Parker D'Agano C/P, Freshman Remick Pearson OF, Freshman Jacob Clark 2B/P.
