Very poorly officiated game, IMO...Hills kid falls down late in OT, rolls over, no walk called....Oh well, such is life.

 

The Frankfort kids left it all on the floor...It was very tough to see them lose...Hats off to EJ Fields....This kid is an ATHLETE, plain and simple. Josh Smith played very hard, as did the rest of the Frankfort squad. If Zed Smith hadn't been injured early in the game, I believe the Panthers would have pulled off their second upset in a week....

Western Hills wins their first district championship since the 1988-89 season. Very exciting finish on a Tyler Combess runner with 4 seconds to go.

 

The guys from Frankfort fought their hearts out. It is a shame that someone had to take a loss in this one, because both teams left it all on the floor.

An absolutely great high school basketball game. Players and coaches laying it all on the line, great fan support and enthusiasm on both sides, and a packed house. Everybody should have won. Congratulations to both Coach Welch and Coach Byars!

 

Josh Smith and E.J. Fields were huge for Frankfort, along with a clutch performance from Keri Metcalf when Zed Smith was injured. Great performance all week by Cameron Jouett and Mico Wells was rock solid on the point.

 

John Kendell was outstanding all week and was truly the MVP. Jay Van, Matt Hyatt, Kris Toles and Mike Satterwhite all changed the game toward a Hills victory at one time or another and Tyler Combess played with a "refuse to lose" attitude resulting in the last shot to seal the win.

 

Great job, Everyone! Good luck in the Regional Tournament.

The officiating was very poor especially during the end of regulation and O/T. A questionable call near half court that was clled over and back, another during a loose ball under FHS's basket that was called a held ball, and the roll over. FHS was not able to absorb these calls, but the effort was something special from both of these teams. They wanted it very badly, it was evident on a loose ball, and there had to have been 7,8, or nine players all in a heap after it. I feel really bad for Zed, he was injured early in the game, couldn't go, and the FHS players found a little something extra to stay in it, they dug deep and even led at times. Mike Satterwhite, in my opinion, changed the game for WHHS, made some big shots, grabbed some big rebounds. It was a great game to watch. I wish there wasn't those questionable calls, you hate it for the players, but the WHHS player did make a tough shot to win it. Good luck to both teams in the regional.

I agree totally, Coach. You show me a tape of any basketball game at any level and I can pick out at least 10 judgement calls that a referee, who is standing 3 feet away, makes that I see differently from my seat in the stands 50-100 feet away. Those calls, right or wrong, affect the game no more than a kid dribbling the ball off his foot or missing a free throw. It is just part of the game. To complain about a referee takes the focus off the true stars of the game, the two teams that played their hearts out and represented their schools with class and dignity.

Tough break on the rolled ankle. Hard to prevent if he stepped on another players foot. Also tough to get back to 100% in just a few days.
