March 6, 200719 yr On the last comment, so is my car. Does that mean that a minister can come and borrow it if God tells him to do so? If God tells someone to borrow my car, then yes they can have it. On the other hand, I'm pretty scheptical of folks who claim to be getting their instructions quite that directly. In the absence of God telling me that He told someone to borrow my car, I'll file the police report.

When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard him say it. 20In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!" 22"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. 23"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." Why kill the fig tree just because it was out of season?

The Savior I read about in the Bible had love and wrath; compassion and anger.

Everything belongs to the Lord. Including my wife, my kids, my life. EVERYTHING. That is my belief. Won't hold up in a court of law though. I guess one of my points is that what Christians are called to do WILL CONFLICT at times with what is right in the eyes of society. It probably would be considered stealing but the disciples were instructed by Jesus to do it. But that is also a slipping slope point because too many times people have done horrible things in the name of the Lord.

Two thoughts...1) He was just using it to create an opportunity to teach, or 2) The fig tree is often used as a symbol of the nation of Israel, so could there be a deeper meaning intended?
March 6, 200719 yr Well anyway, they had no trouble in getting the ride and it wasn't needed and I'm sure it was returned. Also some people were familar with OT teachings about the coming Messiah.
