Coach of the year in the 14th? Predictions

Featured Replies

Who deserves this years coach of the year honors?

1.Coach Banks- Breathitt county probably would be my #1 with the turn around that they have made.

2.Coach Lively-Powell county if they can continue to play well and make a good showing in the region if not go out of here to the state tourney.

3. Coach Morris or Coach Stepp, Hazard and JBS I have tied for 3rd. One team won the Wymt Tourney and the other won the All A tourney. Both should advance and do well in the region.

Any others?????

If Buckhorn makes it past PCC, I think John Noble should be considered.

In case anybody has forgotten......They still have to play the District & Region tounaments.

Coach Banks would be my first slection and then i think Coach Noble would be my second he has done a great job at buckhorn and he is a good guy.:thumb:

I would have to agree Lightning. If Buckhorn can come to Perry and beat the Dores, Noble will be a lock for the Coach of the year.

We heard you the first time Catch, but that is why it is coach of the "YEAR", not coach of the tournament. This honor is based on what a team has done throughout the year, not just because they win a couple games in the district or regional tourney. And I still say even if Breathitt gets beat the first game of the Region, coach Banks has done a great job turning around the Breathitt program and should be considered Coach of the Year in the 14th.

When do they give this award out ? Do they not give it out after the regional tournament is over ?

Overall I think what you are saying is accurate. However, in the case of Breathitt County I think the regional tournament is the decider on how good of a job he has actually done. He has won a lot of games on a very weak schedule which doesn't prove anything. A quality win over Hazard by one point is about the best win they had. So, the proof about the job he has really done will be decided at Letcher Central in my mind.

Like you said, even if he gets beat first game in region, it won't matter because it is a regular season award right ?

John Noble should be coach of the year!!!

John Noble should be coach of the year!!!

John has done a great job at Buckhorn considering were the basketball program was a few years ago. But if i had a vote it would go to Coach Banks because Breathitt County won very games last year and was IMO one of the worsts teams in the region. This year many people think Coach Banks can win the region with this young team

Kyle Lively took a team that won less than 8 games last year and has made a regional contender out of Powell. They won a tourney at Letcher Central and finished 5-1 in their district. Has to be considered one of the top three. As for Coach Banks I would have to agree that he has turned that program around but from previous posts by the Breathitt faithful, that team was already in place and was destined to win. I asked the quetion earlier in the year about the turnaround from last year and was informed (quite matter of factly) that he was handed a talented team that was supposed to win???? Not trying to stir the pot.... just asking????

Everyone that knows anything about 14th region basketball knows that Powell couldnt play dead in a western last year and would be the same way this year if it wasnt for Coach Lively. He is the difference in the team. i have got to watch them play 2 times this season and seems like the attitude of the kids are totally different. Kids act the way they are all allowed to act and i think as far as class Lively has as much as anybody by watching the way his kids have changed. I think he will make noice come tour. time. Somebody will have to play to beat him.
