120 Media Kentucky Football Power Index (KFPI) - 2026

Featured Replies

This is a pretty fun site to compare teams. Please note that I'm just sharing it so I can't answer any questions.

What is KFPI?

The 120 Media Kentucky Football Power Index — KFPI — estimates team strength across all six Kentucky classifications using game results, opponents and scoring margins.

The model evaluates teams together: beating a strong opponent carries more weight than beating a weak one. It also accounts for home field and limits the benefit of running up the score. An undefeated record matters, but the competition behind that record matters, too.

Reading a strength rating

Each team receives a strength rating. Zero represents the average rated Kentucky team. A team rated +20 would be estimated to beat an average team by about 20 points on a neutral field. The difference between two teams’ ratings provides a starting point for a matchup prediction.

Checking the results

Kentucky scores are checked against the official KHSAA scoreboard. Out-of-state results provide additional schedule context, and teams with limited opponent data receive coverage warnings.

You can explore statewide and class rankings, inspect team results, and compare matchups. Team strength is KFPI’s main purpose; predictions help us test whether those ratings hold up.

7. Beechwood +44.5
8. DuPont Manual +42.2
9. Woodford County +39.9
10. Pulaski County +38.4
11. South Warren +37.9
12. Owensboro Catholic +37.4
13. Covington Catholic +35.4

21. Lexington Catholic +29.8
22. St. Xavier +29.7
23. Mayfield +29.7
24. West Jessamine +29.3
25. Corbin +28.5

And there is a lot more information on the site (linked above) for the nerds among us:

How strength is estimated

Every class fits together. The model estimates each team's strength from score margins, opponents and venue. A 28-point dominance threshold limits the benefit of running up the score; large wins establish a minimum level of dominance rather than an exact 28-point result.

Teams with little evidence are pulled toward the network average. v0.4 reduced that pull and added margin scaling from completed earlier-week predictions. v0.5 and v0.6 expanded external schedule context. v0.7 reduces the pull toward average uniformly across all teams: ridge 0.05, compared with 0.5 previously. This allows results against sparsely connected strong opponents to carry more weight. It can also make estimates more sensitive to missing games. Home advantage is estimated from results. There are no reputation boosts, class bonuses or generic state bonuses.

What the numbers mean

KFPI is the estimated point advantage over the average rated Kentucky team on a neutral field. Subtract two ratings for an estimated neutral-field margin. Schedule strength is the mean rating of played opponents.

Data checks

Sunday October 11 refresh: Added 553 results since the October 7 snapshot: 77 Kentucky-related results and 476 external results. Thirty additions backfill earlier dates. The formula and margin calibration are unchanged.

This weekend’s 77 Kentucky results include 74 matching score reports, two discrepancies resolved using KHSAA, and one official-only result. Woodford’s official final is 56–34 over Collins, correcting Friday’s early 55–34 report. Administrative outcomes affect records, not strength fitting.

The network contains 1,653 observed teams. All 54 direct external opponents were checked against fresh schedules or the Ohio scoreboard. No posted finals remain pending in those retrieved schedules; the wider network is not certified complete. Most external scores still have one source. One ambiguous external school identity remains withheld.

Two older Indiana games were reassigned to the correct Mt. Vernon school after checking opponent links. Eight older external score disagreements retain their previous canonical scores and remain in the audit. The October 7 baseline audit covered 743 played Kentucky results: 724 agreed and 19 used the official final.

Unrated and disconnected teams are not assigned a fabricated strength. Listed home venues are used unless identified as neutral; the venue audit remains incomplete.

There is a lot of functionality with this site including the ability for it to predict head to head matchups. I think it is using ChatGPT. Here is the Woodford/Scott County matchup:

I have no idea but one thought is if this new service/company is using AI there is probably a cost associated with it and if all of a sudden a bunch of people start using the service the cost would skyrocket and maybe deny service until something changes. Additionally, their Facebook page and their website are both loading but I don't believe you get access to the ratings at either of those links. I am sure we will learn more.

I am still getting the same 404 error but it looks like it may be working in full on their site:
