4th Region Off-Season Discussion Hub

Despite an upset loss to Bowling Green during the regular season, the region champion had a bit of a foregone conclusion feel this year, with Warren Central winning every other region game they played by double digits, and never trailing in the second half of any of those games.  However, their dominance did not extend to the state tournament, where they fell to North Laurel in a game where in an inverse to the region, they did not lead for a single second in the second half (or the second quarter and on at that).  Some initial questions leading into the next year:

* Will Bowling Green ascend right back to the favorite in the region after what qualified as a down year for them? They lose only one senior (who was their fifth leading scorer) from a team that won 19 games, claimed the only win over Warren Central, and ultimately had the closest margin in the postseason for a region team (lost by 10).

* Just how far a step back will Warren Central take with the loss of seven seniors? Armani Byrd returns after a very down second half of the last season, but four of the top five scorers graduate.

* Can Greenwood withstand the loss of the co-POY for the region Isaiah Summers to continue to progress with a young core and challenge the Bowling Green/Warren Central duo?

* Will anyone else step up to break the hold the 14th District has had on the region? Clinton County took their best shot, but lose EIGHT of their top nine scorers, with only Chase Harmon (5.2 PPG) returning.

DF, No love for S. Warren going into next year?  Seems like Coach Quarrels has had them trending in the right direction.  Can they sustain it?

They lost six seniors out of a seven man rotation.  They went as deep as nine in other games, but primarily, it was just those seven. Perkins is a great player, but everyone else is gone.  That was why it was so incredibly important that South take advantage of the opportunity they had this year when Bowling Green was a step behind where they normally are.  They haven't earned the benefit of the doubt that a Warren Central or Bowling Green gets when they lose almost everyone.  

Now, don't get me wrong - Coach Q has done a very good job and has multiple accolades lacking from every other coach in the program's history (20+ win season, region tournament appearance and region final berth, zero losing records [so far]).  But on paper, it will require some step ups from some unknowns and/or some players coming into the program for the program to not take a step back next season. Just consider that while this year was the most successful season the program has ever had, they still had a losing record in the district (2-4 regular season, 3-6 by end of region). 

The next realistic goals for the program to achieve that would push them forward would be: winning record in district play (they went 4-4 in regular season their very first year in the program and have yet to even be .500 in district play since), winning a 14th district tournament (no team other than Bowling Green or Warren Central has won one since 1996), winning a 4th region tournament (which no team other than Bowling Green or Warren Central has done since 2008).  I don't see any one of those being achieved next year - right now I'd have them fourth in the district.

McCoy moving over from Greenwood to Franklin-Simpson is the biggest story so far in the offseason.  

Additionally, word is that Keshawn Moore from University Heights Academy (26.3 PPG last season) will be at Bowling Green next season.

After last yrs results, it’s no surprise BG found a stud. Just another reason Coach Mc headed south 20mi.

Transfers Between High Schools Policy

BGP does not permit general discussion or commentary regarding transfers of student-athletes between high schools.

The use of the terms “transfer portal” or “portal” to describe high school student-athletes is prohibited in all high school forums.

The only transfer-related information permitted on BGP is basic factual information confirming that a student-athlete has transferred from one high school to another. Such information may include the student-athlete’s name, sport/position, former school, and new school.

Other than the basic fact of the transfer itself, no discussion, commentary, analysis, speculation, opinion, comparison, explanation, or reference to transfers is permitted.

This prohibition includes, but is not limited to:

• Discussion of why a student-athlete transferred or may have transferred.

• Discussion of the effect of transfers on a school, team, program, coach, or community.

• Comments suggesting that transfers are the reason a team or program is successful or unsuccessful.

• Comments suggesting that a team, school, or program has benefited from, been harmed by, gained from, or lost because of transfers.

• General statements or opinions about transfers, transfer activity, or the impact of transfers on high school sports.

• Comparisons between schools, teams, or programs based on transfers or transfer activity.

• Comments using transfers to support, explain, criticize, or otherwise make a point about a school, team, program, coach, player, or high school sports generally.

• Any speculation, inference, or commentary regarding the circumstances or reasons for a transfer.

• Any discussion, suggestion, or implication of recruiting, inducement, eligibility issues, or rule violations in connection with a transfer.

• Attempts to indirectly discuss, question, interpret, or characterize a transfer or transfer activity.

A transfer may not be used as a subject, example, explanation, justification, comparison, argument, or supporting point in any discussion on BGP.

For purposes of this policy, the fact that a transfer has occurred does not make the transfer itself an acceptable topic for general discussion. The permitted exception is limited to reporting the basic factual information that the student-athlete transferred from School A to School B.

No discussion of rumored, possible, anticipated, or unconfirmed transfers is permitted. No additional discussion is permitted simply because a transfer has been officially completed or publicly confirmed.
