Coach Moberly better lock those girls in the film room over the next week! Kudos to Dunbar on their prep and grit, but that game should not have come down to the last few seconds and a 3 pointer to advance to the Sweet 16! 

 

Outstanding showing by the Lady Bulldogs. The blueprint is out how to stop the Lady Broncos, and they executed the gameplan to the fullest!

Paul Laurence Dunbar trailed 37-25 in the third quarter but rallied to tie the score at 43-43 on a three point baskets by Eriyaune Daniels with 2:12 left in the game.  The game remained tied and Frederick Douglass called a timeout with eight seconds remaining on the clock.  The ball went to MK Bennett who made the extra pass and found 5-4 So. Eiona Atkins open for the game winning three point basket with four seconds remaining on the clock.  Dunbar then turned the ball over and Douglass returns to the Sweet 16.

Jaelee Knowles led Frederick Douglass with 24 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots, and three steals.  Reagan Gregonis added eight points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, and two steals.  MK Bennett recorded eight points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Kaleigh Potts led Dunbar with 18 points including three three point baskets, two rebounds, and two steals.  Eriyaune Daniels added 12 points on four three point baskets.  Layla Flynn recorded six points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Frederick Douglass was only 13 of 23 from the free throw line but out rebounded Dunbar 30-17.

Douglass had better shoot free throws from here on much better than 13 for 23. The long time coach of Clay County Tigers, the late great Bobby Keith, was fond of saying, “two things that aren’t around very long, dogs that chase cars and basketball teams that can’t make free throws.”
