Tates Creek hits (29) 3-pointers against Adair County

Featured Replies

Don’t know if this is a KHSAA record, but the Commodores of Tates Creek hits 29 of 57 three pointers in their 115 to 89 victory over Adair County yesterday. The Commodores are headed by Keaton Belcher, formerly head coach of both the Pendleton County Wildcats and Ryle Raiders. Keaton was an all-state for the Wildcats in the 10th Region, and played college ball at Belmont.

WOW!

I know the game is trending this direction but that is a LOT of 3s.

? This isn't the record. Hard to know for sure who holds the record, as the KHSAA stopped updating their "published record books" two to three years ago.

? The team record(?) for made and attempted three pointers are both by the same team in the same game ~

41/101 Jackson City vs. Millersburg Military Institute (1.28.1992)

Jackson City won that game 180-72.

Per the KHSAA's last update two years ago, Commodores ~

29 made 3s ties for 2nd "all time."

57 attempted 3s ranks 5th "all time."

Their top shooters in terms of volume are averaging between 37% and 42% from the field.  That’s good shooting, especially if they’re consistent.

Does anyone familiar with the program know if they do anything special in terms of teaching shooting?  I’m a firm believer that starting in middle school and teaching good form is the key but it’s surprising as to how many coaches talk about good form but don’t put the work in to teach it.

How often can a team shoot 51 % overall and 42 % from 3 point range, score 89 points and still lose by 26?  That’s what happened to Adair.
