4A Logan County (8-1) at 6A South Warren (9-0)

The Cougars head east across Route 68-80 to take on the Spartans of South Warren.  This will be the 10th meeting between the 2 schools with South Warren holding a 7-2 lead in the series.  Logan County beat South in their opening season of varsity football back in 2011 (24-13) and then STUNNED the Spartans in 2022 27-17 at South Warren.  That 2022 defeat came on the heels of a grinding loss at Greenwood which knocked South to the #3 spot in the district that season.  But other than those two games, South has won the other 7 games by a combined score of 323 to 22 (or 46 to 3).  I think both these teams should revisit scheduling for this week.  For Logan County, I think moving say Greenwood down here to Week 10 makes a lot of sense from a strong competitive standpoint.  If you still want to play South, fine, but do it early in the year before they are locked in defensively.  For South, you are in 6A now and some seasons you’ll need an RPI boost down at this spot on the schedule.  Maybe, dare I say, a Boyle County game would be a marque game in the state for your schedule.  But that doesn’t seem to align with the South scheduling philosophy.  So be it.

Logan County Cougars Information – (TP94 Rating:  60.76)

The Cougars have been super solid this year with their only loss coming at stout Paducah Tilghman in a “somewhat” surprisingly competitive game only falling 35-27.  They are 4th in 4A RPI ratings at 0.69865.  Impressive in a STACKED 4A Class!  There are some Gashouse Gorilla’s lurking in 4A (tip of the hat to one of my all-time favorite Bugs Bunny cartoons!)  But I’ll be pulling for them through their playoff journey.

They upended reeling Warren East last Friday to seal the 4A District 1 #2 seed.  And I want to say this prior to moving on; I think Coach Todd Adler is one of the most undervalued coaches in the entire state.  The job he has done at Logan County is SUPER impressive to me!  He has 62 kids on the roster.  That is a HUGE number for a county school!

Logan County is led by widely unknown and undervalued SO QB Luke Rodgers who has been really impressive this season going 129 for 193 with 1,518 yards with 17 TDs vs only 4 INTs.  Well done young man!  JR Christian Helle leads the Cougars rushing attack with 868 yards and 15 TDs on the year.  The top WR for Logan is SO TySean Thomeczek with 32 catches on the year for 405 yards and 4 TDs.  Defensively, JR Carson Carlock has had a great season with 69 tackles (14 tackles for loss) and 7 sacks!  Well done!  Great season so far!  And while Logan County does have Seniors who strongly contribute, none of the players above are Seniors, so the Cougars should be strong into the future as well!

South Warren Spartan Information – (TP94 Rating:  88.14)

Another week, another pummeling in 6A District 2.  This time at the hands of overmatched Daviess County by a 49-14 score.

The Spartans are led by JR QB Camden Page (1,439 yards passing with 16 TDs vs 4 INTs).  SR RB Kayden York continues his fine play.  He has 513 yards rushing on the season through 8 games with 12 TDs.  SR Jake Carter leads the Spartan WRs with 42 catches for 572 yards and 6 TDs on the year.

Defensively, South has only given up 109 points through 8 games and 3 points in district play.  Mercy.

Game Information

The game will be played at South Warren High School football field.  I just don’t see this game being competitive and this isn't a mudslinging shot at the Cougars.  Plain and simple.  Logan County hadn’t had much success in this series at all until 2022.  Can the Cougars find that 2022 magic and keep on their hot streak or will South Warren stay in the win column vs Logan County?

I’ll take South Warren 42-14, I think Logan might keep it close for a quarter or two but South will be too much.

Is #1 out for Logan??? He was pretty impressive at Tilghman.  Just a Soph I think.  Really fast

7-0 SW.

I love Logan's uniforms.  Reminds me of the Houston Oilers.

Touchdown SW, they came ready to play.

Yes, I also noticed #8 SR Isaac Christian is out for Logan as well

I remember he was very good too

21-0 South Warren dashes for a 41 yard touchdown on 4th and 2. Logan has had south on a couple 3rd downs and a 4th but just can’t finish drives defensively

80 yard touchdown pass by Luke Rogers to Damani Goodloe SW 21 LC 7
