KHSAA Transfer Rules

Here we go.........Students transfer inside of JCPS schools all the time no one sits out. In all county schools you have to have a change of residence.

-  Transfer to a private school anywhere in the state and no issues...completely different set of rules.

Privates should be separated just like in TN.

Your last point about Privates is totally INCORRECT. Much more scrutiny over those.

If you did separate the privates out the KHSAA would lose a LOT of dollars and we know that’s not happening.

There was a time when some of the bigger Private schools looked at leaving the KHSAA. That was always my hope that they just did that and then wouldn’t be party to the inequity of transfer policies.

Private schools in Tennessee are still part of the TSSAA, they just have separate divisions for them.  They have three classes for private schools and that works for them.  It wouldn't work in KY.  The reason you can't do that in KY is we aren't nearly as big as TN.  They have way more private school teams in TN.  If KY tried that, we'd have about 20 schools total and no real way to separate into two divisions so it would have to be one.  We talked about being unfair now, could you imagine Holy Cross (Louisville or Covington) having to play against Trinity or St. X?  Indiana doesn't separate out private schools and you see maybe one private school win any of they six classess in any given year.  Why is that the case in IN and not in KY?  Below is the breakdown for private school classes in TN.  Many will see plenty of school names they recognize.  This is why separating out private schools works for them.

Definitely not.  There is almost zero scrutiny over private schools, by KHSAA or by the Commonwealth itself.  They do whatever they want, whenever they want.

I really don't think they would.  There's not too many private schools overall that would be bringing in big bucks.  There's a handful, but I don't think it would kill KHSAA.

But, why would they have to leave?  Couldn't KHSAA just create a separate private school division/league if you will?

I don't think it will happen, nor do I think it should.

I think you should do a little more research before making such accusations.  I don't see much oversight over any schools, private or public.  Transfers are rampant, and approvals and eligibility of such transfers are inconsistent.

How do you move into the CAL or LCA or Lexington Catholic School District like you have to do with a public or county school district?

You don’t have to move anywhere. That’s why kids can transfer from Scott County to Henry Clay without moving.
