Single A NewCath (1-2) travels to 5A Conner (0-3). NewCath coming off its first victory with a beat down of Boone Co, as Conner is looking for its first one after a 40-27 loss to Lloyd. This one looks to be interesting as NewCath seems to still be figuring some things out in the trenches. NCC QB Miles had himself a day last Friday, 14/15 completions with 176 yards 3 passing TD's and 2 rushing. Conner QB Montgomery put up solid numbers as well 21 of 39 attempts passing for 325 yards and 4 passing TD's....This one has the makings of a shootout. Who you taking in this one?

This game should be close, right?

I think so. Definitely closer than the games these two teams have played in thus far.

What are we considering close? 2 scores or under is close? 3 scores or more is a blowout?

I think Conner has the advantage in all area's. Speed, size, skill, offense, defense, special teams. I like that New Cath got their get right game and did exactly what they were suppose to do. They should have some confidence about what works for them coming into this one but I think Conner has a few more dudes that make "the" plays that they need to. Conner makes plays after they catch the ball and makes plays in congested area's is really the biggest difference to me in this one.

New Cath made plays against Boone and Conner made plays against Lloyd, albeit not enough in a loss. Boone does not compare to Lloyd at all. New Cath did not make the plays that were there against Lloyd and Conner did.

I have been high on NCC's QB Miles for a while now but he has to have time to operate to be efficient and productive (as majority of QB's do).  Miles guys have to make plays down field and in the open field which I'm not so confident about in this one.

Conner's QB Montgomery deserves some respect on his name. I think Montgomery can make something happen out of nothing. When there is something there, he makes the right play and his guys make plays for him.

Conner's defense has issues they need to figure out fast and they have to help Conner's offense early in this one by getting early stops or turnovers. Lloyd's kids ran right by Conner, through them and around them straight from the get go (as well for NCC too). If they don't get on track defensively this week then they are in big trouble for the rest of the year.

I think NCC's defense has the bigger issues in this one though. I don't see them stopping Conner. I think Conner's offense is licking their lips thinking about how they are going to feast on this NCC defense but they need to jump out early. Depenbrock, Kollar, Abernathy, and Lampkin are some fine skill players. My X factor is Montgomery because his team rallies around him. Abernathy returns a kickoff for a TD if kicked deep to him.

NCC will be battle tested for district play and at the end of the night that is what matters most to them for the first 5 weeks.

Conner 42-14.

Beautiful night in Hebron for this one. When was the last time NKY has had weather like this to start the season. No clue what to think here but the Breds showed spirit and fight against Beechwood (despite the score) and a lot of aggressiveness last week against Boone Co. Hopefully that will carry over to tonight. Good luck to both teams.

Wow, I didn't see a running clock early in the 2nd quarter, just wow.

Conner misses a 35 yard field goal off the post

35-0 half

42y FG attempt off the upright for Conner to end the first half. 35-0 Conner at half.

NCC TD, 42-7. 1:40 left and clock running fast
