Jacob Waller hits a 36 yard field goal from the right hash to seal the victory for Raceland.

Raceland came out strong on the ground in the first quarter and then cooled off.

Ashland gained some confidence and put some drives together.  But fell a little short.

One of the best week one games you could ask for.

Thanks for the updates @Ram!

Raceland

Stiltner 122 yards rushing on 14 carries

Marushi 59 yards rushing on  11 carries

Arnette 49 yards rushing on 9 carries

Raceland was very lucky to be able to recover from three turnovers.  That has to be fixed quick, fast, and in a hurry.  With their schedule, they can not lose the TO battle.

But, for tonight, great win for the Rams to start the season right against a very good opponent.  Great test for the Rams and they passed, B+, but passed.

All Raceland in the first quarter and then mostly Ashland after that. The long scoring run on the first play for Raceland was hard for Ashland to overcome. The Tomcats could've laid down but eventually settled down. I was impressed with Hughes at QB especially considering he didn't play football last year so his last game was in middle school. They will get much better as the season goes on but I don't see them making noise in the playoffs. Raceland has some work to do but they have a legitimate shot at a 1A trophy. Spreading the Ashland defense and keeping it between the tackles was their go to tonight and it worked just good enough. They'll need some more in the playbook to win 1A but coach Salmons knows what he's doing and he'll take care of business. Great game and good luck to both teams going forward.

Also, turnovers were tough for Raceland and Ashland struggled with red zone penalties. Both teams had their chances and made mistakes they need to clean up.

Congratulations to the Rams on the victory over Ashland.

Honestly, I think Hughes is Ashland's best weapon.  After he gets comfortable in the offense, I think he will be a force to be reckoned with.  He can run, his passes looked good and I think he was gaining confidence as the game went on.

Bump.

I'm sure the fanbase would have preferred a more decisive margin, but the Rams turned it over three times and still won at Putnam. If I'm a Raceland fan, I'm feeling pretty confident right now.
