Bowling Green at Oldham County Predictions/Updates (Scrimmage)

Featured Replies

The Purples head up I-65 for the first lengthy bus trip of the season.  Bowling Green and Oldham County kick of their 2025 Preseason in Buckner this Friday night.

The Colonels enter the 2025 campaign with a new head coach, their 4th since the 2020 Covid Season.  Seasoned and well-heeled in Oldham County Head Coach Jamie Reed brings much experience to Buckner after taking a break from leading South Oldham for 13 seasons (2010 - 2022).  Boy that South vs OC game this year should be standing room only.  But for this year, the Colonels return their starting QB SR Derek Dees, leading returning RB Jayden Corum, and 2nd leading WR Brooks Knightlinger.  On defense Oldham County returns 3 of their top 5 from last season led by SR LB Jacob Michaels.

The Purples will be breaking in a new QB this season.  Most likely SR Jaxon Strautman or JR Embree Dotson will be called on to lead the Purples.  BG will have plenty of skill guys to help the new QB this year with SRs WR Travey Barber, RB Jaxon Smith and RB Trey Graham to name 3.  Defensively, the Purples will be led by returning stars LB Montez Trussell and DE Malik Coburn.  But there are some defensive spots to be filled from last season so it will be interesting to see who gets the early nod for these spots.

Should be a good one in Buckner on Friday evening!

Some good football has come out of the Oldham Co. area under the tutelage of Coach Reed over the last couple of years, which has crossed paths with the Purples.

BG has faced Coach Reed twice in Regional Finals while he was the coach at South Oldham, defeating the Dragons in 2019 and again in 2022.

It will be interesting to see what Coach Reed can now do with the Colonels' program.

BG brings 2 charter buses to Buckner and plays pretty much every player who travelled.

After about 4 straight punts between both teams, as both are rusty offensively.  BG then converts a drive ending with some nice plays by QB Jaxon Strautman and RB Trey Graham to go up 6-0 (XP no good).  That score stood until halftime as both teams were just "pretty rusty" IMO.  The second half kickoff - Travey Barber scores.  BG would score twice more in the 3rd quarter and the BG offense started to click some.  And at the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 27-7 BG as OC QB Dees made some nice plays to set up some short yardage runs and the lone OC TD.

JV played the 4th Quarter.  REALLY like the young Freshman QB for BG Anthony Davis!

For OC, they need to find some more playmakers.  Need their skill guys to make catches.  They didn't do that well tonight.  Dees is good enough to make some plays, but he needs help.

For BG, good first scrimmage, should be ready to step up to Male next week.

Curious @Purple88, did Coach Jamie Reed bring the triple option with him to OC?

Interesting you ask that 34, as I thought I'd see more of that tonight (and I think BG did too), as I can only recall 1 true triple option play for OC and BG had that covered.  But I would think they would go more to this, and I feel it would suit their squad better.  They had some opportunities tonight but simply didn't make the plays.  Hey that happens in early August, but if you're in the same district with Trinity and Ballard, you need as much going your way as possible and I think triple option would help them but again didn't see a ton of that tonight.  Perhaps they wanted to try other things tonight and come back to that later.  Not sure.
